In our issue of July 25th ult. we pub- 1
lished an account of the death of Mr.
Albert Sprouse by being struck by a
train pear Smyrna. We had informa
tion that he was at the time under the
influence of irtoxicants; hence the
reference to * Atianta’s prosperity.”
The motive of the editor at the time
was to condemn the sale of liquor, and
not to harm the memeory of the dead
boy uor to humiliate his family.
The father of the boy has had occa
sion to investigate his condition prior
to and at the time of his death, and he
{ells us that parties who sat next to his
son on the car, and parties who saw
‘him just before his death and after
iwnrds, state that no trace of liquor
could be detected from his breath, and
that the boy must have been sick and
not intoxicated.
We publish this information cheer
fully. Tltis our desire to publish news,
but not to unnecessarily wound the
feelings of any one.

LETTER TO JOHN ANTHONY.
Marietta, Ga.
Dear Sir: The easiest way we know
of to make a little money is—if you're
going to painf-—to paint with the paint
that takes least gallons.
Take a small job; say it takes 10 gal
lons Devoe, two coats; that’s an aver
age house. When the job is done and
the :bill comes-in, it is $5O; the paint
ete $17.50; the rest is for labor and
cartage; the labor is fixing the surface,
shifting ladders scaffolds pulleys and
ropes, and brushing-on paint.
Take another job exactly like that;
try another paint; it takes 12 gallons.
The bill is $lO more. Take another ex
actly the same : another paint: it takes
20 gallons. The bill is $lOO.
There is only one Devoe:; there’s a
dozen 12-gallon paints, and 100 that
teke 20 gallons to cover a 10-gallon job.
The only difficulty is in finding-out
Devoe. After that ycu save work:
there’s less work in 10 than in 12 or 20
gallons; less paint to buy and less to
brush-on and less wages to pay. ‘
If Devoe were cnly a little better
than the others, there'd be soge diffi
culty in finding-out the diflerence. It
goes twice as far as half the paints;
that ought to be easy. |
It wears longer too. You’ll waita
good while, if you wait to find-out how
long it wears; there are thousands of‘
people who know that the least-gallons
paint wears longest. - .
Yours truly, ]
F. W. Devoe & Co.
