last week.
Mr Leo Jolly is all smiles since
he returned from a visit to Man
ning and other points in South
Carolina, and we think it will not
be long ere he makes another visit
and brings a fair companion back
with him.
Mr W O Wardlaw has returned
from Macon, where he has heen on
a visit to his sister.

The community was shocked on
last Wednesday morning to learn
of the death of Mrs Ida Cain
Mayes, wife of Luther C Mayes, of
Cartersville, Ga. She was at Dr
Battys Sanitariam at Rome, Ga.,
and having an operation perfori
ed on Tuesday and died from the
operation that night. The body
was brought to Midway and buried
Thursday morning. She leaves a
husband and a five year old daugh- ]
ter to mourn her death. Rev H
B Seabright conducted the funeral
services. The host of relatives
and many friends join in sympa
thy with the bereaved husband
She was a consistent member of
the Presbyterian church.
A large crowd attended the
Courier picnic and many compli
ments were heard on Seab Wrighte
speech.
It would certainly be economy
to the county for the Ordinary to
finish macadizing the Marietta and
Dallas road up to the city hmits

Lists for private eubscriptions are
being circulated to raise money to
complete this piece of road. The
citizens out here are anxious that
he finish thie piece of road hefore
removing the machinery. ‘

Bartow Henson,and wife of Em

New Salem.
Died on last Thursday, Mr.
William Eubanks, of this place.
He was interred in the New Salem
Cemetery, Friday. Rev. J. J.
Crow conducted the funeral ser
vieges. He was a true Christian
and a member of the New Salem
Baptist church. He was a brave
Confederate soldier. He was T 4
years of age and leaves 5 children,
twogirls and three boys and a
host of friends to mourn his de
mise. The writer eympathises
with the bereaved family.
Mise Dora Guffin spent Satur
day and Sunday with relatives in
Atlanta and East Point. '

ram, Sunday. _
Rev Henderson preached an in
teresting sermon here last Sunday
night. :

of Sandy Plains Baptist church,
are building a new 40 by 60 foot
'churcll house at this place. The
‘contract has been let to Mr R W
Chandler. The building is to be
complete by December first of this
year. Contributions may be han
ded to Messrs J E Burton or Jas
L Dunn, Secretary and Chairman
of the building committee respec
tively. The old church was sold
at auction on Saturday 24th inst.,
Mr Jas I. Dunn being the highest
‘bidder.
On Friday 25th inst., the school
and quite a number of patrons had

‘excellent addresses on the subject
; of local taxation for public schools
