+ A few days ago Mr. Walls Whitmoref
went to the fields and brought back a
basket of mushrooms. They attracted
a good deal of attention. A great many
people are afraid to eat mushrooms
that grow in the fields, on aecount of
their close resemblance to “toad
-8tools,"” which are a deadly poison. Mr,
Whitmore says the difference is quite
apparent. He explained this differ
ence, and said that no one need ever
mistake one for the other. He took the
point of his penknife and lifted up the
top. It peeled back, leaving a perfect
lly smooth under-surface like the beet
does after it is boiled and the outer
skin removed. The “‘toad-stool” does
not presant this smooth under-surface,
but scales and breaks up. Mr. Whit
more is very fond of the good things of
the table, and is ever on the alert to
find them.

two immense Teddy bears. Seated in
the centre of the cage was a little boy,
wearing a fantastic cap, and in his
hand was a toy pistol. The wagon was
driven by a young man and attracted
a good deal of attention. Hand-bills
were distributed stating that Bostain’s
