~ Died.—Mrs Sallie Maddox, wife
of Mr J C Maddox, died at a sani
tarium in Atlanta, last Thursday
eveniug. She leaves a devoted
hus*and and six little children be
side a host of sorrowing relatives
and friends to mourn her loss.
Mrs Maddox had only lived in our
community about a year, but all
who knew her loved her. The fu
neral was preached at the Baptist
church Saturday morning at 11
o’clock by Rev I M Spinks and
the remains were interred in the
city cemetery. This bereaved fam
ily have our deepest sympathy .
Mr and Mrs Frank Tapp, of
Henderson, Ky, were recent guests
of the family of Mr W J Tapp.
Miss Mamie Vaughn who 18 at
tending the State Normal school
at Athens, spent Saturday and
Sunday with homfolks.
Mrs Eula Williams, ot Acworth,
18 visiting her aunt, Mrs Uriah
Matthews.
Mies Lillie Mosley svent last
week with relatives in Douglas
ville. Mr John Mosley spent Sun
day there and accompanied Miss
Lillie home.
Misses Meek of Illinois are the
charming guests of their sister,

Diep —Mr Dean Hardy, who
had been sick for the past few
months with dropsy, died last
Monday moraing, Oct. 7th. Mr
Hardy was 52 yeais of age. He
was a kind and obliging neighbor,
and had many friends who regret
to learn of his death. The funer
al services were conducted by Rev
W F Walden, and the interment
was in the family gravevard near
Coruer Chapel. He leaves a wife
and several children whe will miss
him greatly iu the home. The
bereaved ones have our sympathy.
Mrs Hattie Babb is spending a
few days with her daughter, Mrs
I M Pittman, at Riverside.
Miss Nannie Griggs has been
very eick for the pust few dags,
but 18 eome better at this writing.
Miss Etbel Taylor left Monday
for Powder Springs, where she has
accepted a position as clerk for I

Mre Fannie Brown is spending
several days in Marietta with her
son, Mr Jim Brown.

ness of Mrs W N Hardage, also of
Mr Billie Hardage, who has the
fever. We hope for them a speedy
recovery.

Mrs Naannie Mims, of Atlanta,
visited relatives here last week.

There was quite a heavy frost
here Monday morning.
A collection was taken up for
the orphans’ home last Sunday,
and a sum of $lB was realized.

Mr J F Lumpkin, in Marietta,
last Sunday, Mr Grover Petty and
Miss Kate Taylor, both of this
place, were happily joined iu wed
lock. Rev J H Patton, of Mari
etta, performed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr
and Mrs Harvey Taylor, of this
place, and is a sweet and amiable
young lady, and numbers her
friends by the score. The groom
is one of our most energetic and
enterprising young farmers, up
right and industrious, aud his
many f{riends are congratulating
him on the prize Le has won. Mr
and Mrs Petty are stopping with
his mother, where they will be at
’home to their friends. May their
pathway always be as bright as it

BITTEN BY A SPIDER.
