Bishop C. K. Nelson, who has

For the purpose of making new

will be compelled to seek new

An autimobile that runs in the
water as readily as it does on dry
land has been invented and is on
exhibitionin New York. Thenext
thing in order is an airship attach
ment to the apparatus, and then a
rmechanism by means of which it
can be changed into a submarine
at & moments notice. In these
days the demand is for a machine
that can swim, run, float and dive
with equal facility.
We would be glad to see all chil
dren grow to useful manhood and
wemanhood. They should be
trained along the lines of industry.
Iu ehort, the home ought to he a
sort of school for manual training,
that, through this useful occupa.
tion, the real bent of the child’s
mind might be readily perceived.
Not all work, neither all play, bat
enough of both to make work and
pleasure alike enjoyable and re
freshing, Thus the child might be
trained in useful ways and obtain
phyeical vigor now almost impoe
sible by the useful strain put on
the child inclined to studious
habits.
The impetuosity of President ‘
Roosevelt iOt him into just a bit
of a enarl the other day. Among
the visitors to the White House at
a public reception wae a pretty
litsle woman who, in introducing
herself, said: ‘‘l am the mother
of six children, Mr. President—"’
Before she could get any further,
the President eeized her hand and
exclaimed, ““I must congratulate
you.”” Then the pretty little wo
man continued, ‘‘but five of them
are step-children.’”” The Presi
dent’s emile faded, and he didn’t
eyeu have a word to eay in compli
ment to the father of the sextette.

Japanese government, it is an

function of this bureau will be to
watch closely all emigration to the
Japanese colonies or to other

possible all such claims clashes as
those at San Francieco and Van

DONNELLY & HATFIELD'S MIN.
STRELS.
Among the many novel acts and spe
cialties in the splendid show given by
the Donnelly & Hatfield magnificent
minstrels this season is the Tuscano
brothers’ Roman juggling performance,
which is indeed a thriller, from all ac
counts. These wiry performers throw
from one to the other heavy-hefted,
double-headed battle axes that would
tire the arm of Richard Coeur de Lien
or a Plantagenet. Thrown with almoat
incredible dexterity and force, these
performers keep as many as twelve
hatchets in the air at one time. Inin
dividual exhibitions of celerity with
these sharp, old-time instruments of
war, the Tuscanos are unrivalled. The
Donnelly & Hatfleld show will appear
‘at opera house, Marietta, Nov. 18th,
. Fifteen million dollars’ worth
of new double-eagles are to be
milled at the Philadelphia mint
as rapidly as the machines can
grind them out.

LETTER TO C. E. HENDERSON,
Marietta, Ga,
Dear Sir: Ten years ago, there was
one pure paint and 200 adulterated ;
there are now eight pure 200 adulter
ated, about half of the latter short
measure besides.
There is still but one best, and the
difference is ten gallons Devoe goes as
far as eleven next-best—ss—in every
ten gallons.
A new word has come-up in paint; it
18 strong. Strong paint goes further
and wears longer; weak paint takes
more gallons and wears-out sooner.
The proper cost of a 10-gallon ;ob is
$5O. Paint that takes 11 gallons makes
it $55. Paint that takes 12 gallons
makes it $6O. Paint that takes 13 gal
lons makes it $65. Paint that takes 20
zallons makes it $lOO.
The $5O job wears twice as long as the
$100." These figures are not precise;
they are round. The 10-gallon paint is
Devoe. :
Yours truly,
F. W. Devor & Co.
