had his incurable sore leg amputated

Mr. Browx, the electrician of the
Georgia Public Service Company, is a
hustler. Notwithstanding the displace
ment and wreck of many of the electric
wires on Monday by the ice, he had a
force of hands at work and by night he
was ready to turn on the lights when
he received notification from ;the May
or not todo so. On Tuesday he was
prompt to give us the day current to
whirl our machinery. This effort to
give the public good service is com
mendabile and worthy of appreciation.
The infant grand-child of Mr. and
Mrs. William Howard, living near Mr.
A.S.J. Gardiner, swallowed a screw
one day last week. It wasover an inch
long, and, lodging in the throat, the
partaking of food or drink was well
nigh impossible. The child suffered in
tense agony. Dr, Tennent extracted
the screw, after it had passed into the
stomach, by the use of an instrument,
which acts with almost human intelli
gence. The little child is entirely well
at present.
Miss Marguerite Howland has been
elected teacher in public school to
succeed Mrs. B. M. Settle in primary
grade C. Miss Howland is a very com
petent teacher, and will no doubt give
satisfaction. Mrs, Settle has moved to
Nashville.

living and have a small surplus each

At Baptist Conference Wednesday
night Rev. A. R. Bond, of West Point,
Ga., was called to the pastorate of the
Marietta Baptist Church, at a salary of
$1,500. Mr. Bond is a young man about
32 years of age, with a wife and one
child. He is a very fine preacher. He
preached here Sunday and accepted the
call. He will commence hizs pastorate
March Ist.
I'he Marietta Chair Factory has ghut
down for awhile, until more orders
come in and business takes on more
prosperous conditions. This puts out
of employment quite a number of
hands.
Mr. Awtrey C. Moore, of Powder
Springs, is announced for County Sur
veyor in this issue, He isJworthy and

Prof. G. A. Moore, teacher at the
Stone Mountain University, was carried
to the hospital in Atlanta on Monday
night. He is very sick with pneumo
