~ The Marietta Rifles will give the sec~
ond of a series of prize drills at the
armory. 8:15 p. m. Thursday, May
21st. A gold medsal, costing $25, will
be awarded to first winner, and $2.50
cash to the second. Invited guests will
be charged 25 cents admission fee to
defray expenses. It is expected that
this will be the most interesting prize
drill of any yet held, and it is hoped the
help of our people will be liberally ex
tended to the company. The Marietta
Rifles is about the hest eompany in the
Fifth regiment, and they are practicing
to keep it there.
Stone, Barnes & Co. this week, in a
half-page ad vertisement, advertise some
rare and excellent bargains in remnants
and other goods. The ladies will find
that there is something in this adver
tisement worthy of their perusal. The
splendid and well-selected stock of dry
}goods, dress goods, embroideries, laces,
trimmings, shoes and clothing at this
store is the talk of the town, and it is
generally an expression of well-pleased

The United Confederate Veterans,
the Ladies Memorial Association, Ken
nesaw chapter, United|Daughtersiof the
Confederacy, and Varina Davis chap
ter, Children of the Confederacy, will
unite in celebrating the 3rd of June,
which is the 100th anniversary of the
birth of President Jefferson Davis.

Young, pastor of Marietta mission, will
be glad to learn he has recovered from
his severe illness, and will sail from
New York obp Thursday, May 14th, for
his home in Germany, to visit his fa
ther. All wish him a safe voyage, and
hope the trip will benefit his health.
He will be gone three months. Bon
