| The contest for judges of the state is
enough to utterly disgust any fair
l minded man with our method of elect
'ing them. The judiciary should be en
| tirely eliminated from polities, and we
oannot better matters until it’s done,
and then rotate them. They are hu
i man, like the rest of us, and cannot
| prevent, if they were to try, being more
or less influenced by politics. Select
the best and most level-headed lawyers
and elevate the bench above petty poli
tics, and we will have aclean judiciary,
and not until.—Blue Ridge Post.
Two bitter fights are now being waged
for judgeships in this part of the State.
Morris and Foster in the Blue Ridge
circuit, and Fite and McCamy in the
Cherokee cireuit. And yet there are
some people who think this 1s the best
way to select judges. To stir up preju
dices, passions and jhates, and to cater
to every voter for his vote, is not the
way an impartial judge should be
elected to pass upon property rights,
life and liberty. Judges are human.
Those farmers who are still holding
their cotton for better prices are very
much gratified over the fact that the
cotton market is now daily climbing.
There is still a lot of cotton held. It
cannot be told how the market next
‘fall will be, though if Providence does
not interfere and cause the crop to be
smaller than indications at present
show, the prices for months next fall
will be low. \
