TO THE PEOPLE OF MARIETTA.
Noticing in the public press that Goy

Cobb county Friday, May 29th, on the
issues of the day, I earnestly request
my friends, and all other good citizens,
to accord to him a most reapectful
‘hearing. While itis true that Governor
Smith comes not in the attitude of
Governor, but in that of a candidate,
yet it should be held in mind that he is
the Governor of Georgia, and as such is
entitled to the deferential considera
tien of all our citizens.
Your fellow citizen, |
JosgpH M. BROWN.

CLAY DISCUSSES HIS STAND.
From Atlanta Constitution.
Indiscussing the report that he would
support Governor Smith for re-election,
Senator Clay said :
*‘ln response to a letter from the ed
itor of the Journal, Mr. Gray, I wrote
him last February that I was Jin favor
of the re-election of Governor Smith, I
stated that his re-election would be in
accordance with democratic precedent,
and was only just and right. This was
before any opposition to him had de
::loped. and there were cnly some scat
tering rumors that my fellow-towns
man, Joseph M. Brown, would make
the race. I am pledged to Governor
Smith and will vote for him.”
Senator Clay having pledged himself
before Mr. Brown came out, it is hon
orable that he should stand by his
edge.
