illness of his sister.

preached at the Second Baptist chureh,
south side, on last Sunday morning,

Smyrna and Marietta had an exciting
game of base ball at Morris’ Park,
Saturday, resulting 6 to 4 in favor of
Smyrna.
Mayor W. R, Joyner’s family will re
“turn to Atlanta this week. They have
been at their summer home south of

Smyrna is a thriving, pusihiug town,
building up right along. Dr. Hamby’s
new, two-story brick store there will
add very much to the looks of the place,

The Jewish New Year or Rosh Ho
shannah will fall this year on Friday,
the 25th of September. Yom Kipnur,
or the Day of Atonement, will fall on
Monday, October sth.

A large number of bales of cotton
were marketed here by farmers Satur
day. It sold at 95 cents. The
lint this season is extra good. The
weather has been propitious, and no
trash or stain renders it inferior. The
cotton crop is not large, and ought to
command a better price than it is now
bringing. Our cotton buyers are deter
mined to pay the highest market price.
They want the farmers to get every
cent that can be paid.

Mr. A. M. Dobbs has bought the T.
R. R. Cobb mansion in Athens, Ga., the
price paid being $12,000. It is one of
the most attractive places in the
‘‘Classic City.” It looks as if Mr.
Dobbs has gone to Athens to stay. We
are still in hopes that he will drift back
to Marietta.
Mr. W. R. M. Saxon, nephew of Mr.
A. A, Wootten, living near Marietta,
has a cancer on his left hand, and will
g 0 to Atlanta today (Wednesday) to
have the hand amputated. Our citi
zens have very generously contributed
to help him bear the expense.

The tent meeting at Elizabeth closed
Sunday night. The results were fine,
