By the Kick of a Mule—'
Pieces Taken l
Out.
The Journal regrets to learn of a sad
occurrence at the home of Mr. G. R.
entley, who lives three miles east o
arietta, late Friday afternoon. His
ittle son, James, four years old, went
ut into the wheat field where there
was a young mule colt. The little fel
low got too close to the mule’s heels,
and, as is often the case, a mule does
the vicious act, and he let fly his heels
and struck the little boy square in the
face, knocking him senseless and shat
tering the bones. He was brought . tg
Marietta Friday night, and Dr. C.-
'Elder found the juw bones of the boy’s
face badly fractured, nose crushed, and
several small pieces of bone had to be
taken out.
Dr. Elder gave the necessary surgical
attension, and the little fellow was cnr-l
ried back to his home. It will be some
time before he will be well, and he will
robably be disfigured for life.
DEATH OF MR. DAN FREY.

to-do farmer, and his death will be re
gretted. He was about 74 years of age.
He leaves a wife and one son, Mr. Jonn
D. Frey. His funeral was conducted
last Friday by Rev. J. M. Gable, as
sisted by Rev. Mr. Wells. His burial
was at the Marietta camp ground.

Hands.
The Journal is informed that last
week Mrs. M. M. Sessions hought
of Senator A. S. Clay the corner
store property facing Washington ave
nue &nd Atlanta street on the public
square. The property consists of three
stores now occupied by the Singer Sew
ing Machine Company, Mr. R. E, Hipps
and Mr. Mace Morris.
It is the purpose of Mrs. Sessions to
build a two-story brick bank building,
with merble trimmings, at no distant
day. 'The building will be modern in
every particular, with basement and
two other stories, offices, toilet rooms,
water and electric lights. The plans
are now made. The entrance to the
gsecond story will be on Atlanta street,
the two north stores being thrown into
one, and the other store to be rented.
The plans were made by Mr. A. Ten
Eyck Brown, architect, of Atlanta, one
of the finest and best in the country.
He has drawn plans for some of the
most costliest buildings in the country.
This will be a valuable improvement
that will add much to the appearance
of that corner. Marietta is growing
and improving, and real estate will con
tinue to hold its own,
