- John West, a young white man, was
arrested Friday evening on s warrant
charging larceny after trust. While in
Jail, he borrowed a pair of shoes of a
prisoner named Gray, and a coat from
& prisoner named Capes, 8o he could ap
pear more presentable in Cobb Superior
Court, where he had to stand trial on
the charge of stealing from Mz, Coeh
ran’s melon patch. West was acquit
ted on a technieality, and failed to re
turn the borrowed shoes and coat,
hence his arrest. J udge Morrig told
West if he appeared before him again
that he would have to sentence him to
“do time,” 80 we guess he is (n for it.
Mrs. John E. Springer, of Valdosta,
Ga., 18 now in Carlyle, England. She
writes tu her brother-in-law, Dr.l. H.
Springer, that her health is not improv
ing; that she improved more while in
Marietta than she has there. That is a
good advertisementfor Marietta. There
is no healthier climate anywhere than
right here. We repeat, Marietta is the
best town, in the best eounty, in the
best state, in the United States, Come
to Marietta!
The following is a very truthful re
mark: “The man who grows up in his
native town is regarded as a boy by his
elders until he is well started dowy the
declivity of life that ends in a hole. The
stranger who comes into a place is more
often pushed to the front than the
young man who has grown up with the
town. This is the reason why 80 many
young men become dissatisfied with
their home surroundings and long to
cast their lot in other quarters.”
