Cheney Writes of Mr. Morris’ o Fine Crops. EDITOR THE JOURNAL: The writer, in company with ‘‘Planter”’ Joe Hardsge. went down to Belmont farm last week to see Hon. J. Gid Mor ris’ brag 5-acre piece of eotton now maturing. It was a sight to see. and is gure to make two bales per acra. and if the seasons from now on until frost are favorable, “'Unele” Gid is going to gather two and a half bales per acre from those 5 acrea. While there we were taken into the confidence of Mr. Morris, and were shown some extra varieties of ecotton which he has planted off to itself, and which he déclared he had never allowed anyone else tosee It beats anything I ever saw, and when the next State fair comes off “Unecle” Gid will be there and bring back to old Cobb county all the blue ribbons on cotton. | I do wish every farmer in Cobb county wonld spare the time to go there and see for himself just whst @an be done by intelligent farming on goed land. It wonld be an inspiration, not toeanse s man to plant more acres, bnt to make more baies on a smaller acreage. Mr. Morris takes such great interest in showing to visitors what he 18 accom plishing, that it is a treat to walk over hie fielde with him. If “Unele” Gid ean do this, why can’t more of us do the same thing? Every farmer ought to ase this cotton field. Jouax P. CHENEY. The local teara went out in search of a victory Saturday, and stopped off at Cartersville, and defeated that crack amnateur team with their favorite pitcher Verner in the box, by the score of 6 to 5. Awful, wasn’t it Mable ? Waddell, who must be a twin brother of the famous Rube Wad dell and, whom Marietta prides in as the long boy with a salary whip as good as the best in the business, pitched a good game, and when in the ninth inning with the score against him and {hree men on bases, politely lifted one of Mr. Verner’s swift ones over the left field fence for a home run, which gave him a well earned victory. All the home boys played weli, and if our fans and fanesses would only come out to the games and encour age the boys; they would see some good ball playing and then, too, a good live ball team advertises a town. Atlanta people believe their team advertises their town, and they back it right up to the min ute with several thousand people at each game.
