Lampasas County lies in about

Country !
Stock- raising.
For maiiv years was the principal
puisuit of our people but wit in the
past lour years, much attention has
been bestowed upon tanning, and w L ‘
are now rapidly progressing in agri
cultural attainments, and we wi*ll soon
compare with older counties in this
industry.
The Drouth.
The calamity, so appalling to Im
migrants, is tendered almost harmless
by prudent culture and the irrcsistable
and unmistakable vitality of the soil,
witness; In the year 1871 we experi
enced the seveiest drouth that ever
visit' and this (action,our farmers, not
withstanding the severe pressure, rais
ed a lull crop of wheat, and with few
exceptions, half a emp of corn; and
those who took time by the forelock
planting early ami t, tiding well —realiz
ed an overage crop of corn; this year
full crops ol corn and wheat have been
raised. Corn selling at 50 cts. pr. bu.
Wheat fr. <in 75 cts. to SIOO pr. bu.
Beef from 2£ to 3 cts. pr. lb., Milch
cows, 15a20 dollars pr. head.
Educational.
There are in the town of Lampasas
one High School (private), and two
Public Schools, each numbering over
forty pupils, besides, Private and Pub
lic Schools in nearly every neighbor
hood in the county, all of which arc
generally well attended.
The Price.
Of Land ranges from one to three
dollars, pr- acre for good arable unim
proved; improved tracts command a
higher price Stocks o t Cattle, llrse
Sheep and Hogs, can be furnished to
Immigrants upon as reasonable terms,
Mid can be had elsewhere. Sober and
industrious laboring men are encour
aged and will fiul no difficulty in pro
curing employment at remuneration
rates.
„ The Town.
Of Lampasas, the county seat, is
situated on the Sulphur fork of Lam
pasas river, and is one of the handsom
ost.liv eliest and most flourshing town
