ASSSASfc- IN A I'lOAf. riioiustii M. Alexander the Victim THE VERDICT OF THE JURY OF INQUEST. JimJsseyA Hunter Charged With th3 Murder. | We are railed np in the present week, j to record one of the most cold blooded ; assassinations Unit ever occurred in the | annuls of crime ; and the victim of !I ho black hearted monster’s vengu j atico was one of the must pr< raising a* ; greeable and p pularyoung men in the county ol Brooks—liigh’y connected, ed ucated, refined, in the enjoyment of ro bust liea'th, surrounded by the luxuries that wealth alone supplies, and with biigbt prospects for along, prosperous and happy career in life; and in addition ! to all this, rumor avers that ho was at i a a early day, to be wedded to one if the fairest and most Intelligent ladies ol Brooks county. At ties writing we have but few par ticulars of this fiendish assassination. ,1 appears that the decease I, Mr. Thomas Ah xui.der who was living on the planta tion of his father, I)r. J. M. Alexander paid a social visit to a neighbor’s house (Rev. C.S. Gauming) en the evening of j Tuesday, the 12ih inst., and remained j until between 1 I and 12 o'clock at nigh!; j at which hour bidding the mcmlcis ot the household ’‘good night,’’ lie Mounted | his horse and di parted tor lion.p. Soon i after Mr. Alexander departed, members of Mr. Gacuiing's household heard the report of a lire arm; but il being nothing j unusual, no attention was paid to it, j On the next morning, however, an ! hour or two Us re day, a negro discov ered the dead body of Thomas Alexander ] lying iu the road a slant distance from | the residence of James Mokkow, which is I distant about a quarter if a mile from Mr. Gaui.M,xu's. The inference is, (hat the assassin j was aware of the visit of Mr. Alexander to the reside nee of Mr. Gallium;, and fur I some real or imagined injury, determin j ed to slay him as he departed fur his ! home. For this purpose, he concealed 1 himself along side the read, over which j the deceased was compelled to p iss, and \ as ho did so, the deadly charge was (Led. The shot took effect in the l ack f deceased, and must have resulted in almost instant death. Since the for going was placed fn type, the Jury "I inquest on the body of fn mas M. Alexander, has completed its labors, and rendered the annexed verdict, charging Jiupsey A. lluntkr with tie murder; and he has been arrested and is n iw confined iu the dungeon of the Quit m in j ill. We do not publish, this week, any ol ’the evidence elicited before t! e jury of inquest—preferring not to further in cense the public against the prig mer. The sick were directed to eat herbs to strengthen thorn, to purify them, to heal them, to restore them. In that day the art of making vegetable extracts was unknown. The herbal medicines were mere infusions. It was reserved fora later age to unite the '•amtary essences of tonic, aperient and anlibil •-mis roots, barks, and plants, with an active tiinulant . and thu secure tln-ir rapid diffusion through the debilitated or disordered system. !
