Death of Lucius E. Beall.
Lucius E. Beall, for many years con
tinuously tax receiver of Floyd county,
died at his house near Pinson’s Store
last Sunday after a lingering illness of
several months. Mr. Beall was a justly
popular man and had the respect and
confidence of the people of his acquaint
ance. He was a gallant soldier of the
8th Georgia Regiment in the late war,
doing a Boldier’s full duty until disabled
by a severe wound which so shattered
his thigh bone that he never fully recov-1
ered from it, the wound never healing |
entirely, and his leg was so affected as I
to keep him a cripple. The news of his j
death will cause his comrades, and
many friends made since, sincere grief,
who will all join jn sympathetic regret for
loss of so good a man and in rendering .
affection’s tribute, a silent tear, to his
memory.
For Maimed Soldiers.
Col. J. R. Towers has received from
the Governor some blank forms of ap
plication for the money appropriated by
the State to such Confederate soldiers, as
lost a limb while in service. Col. Tow
ers will fill out and forward these appli
cations without charge. The amounts
vary from $40 to $80.
A Big Potato.
Mr. S. B. Chambers, of this county,
sent to town a few days since some po
tatoes that are hard to beat, so far, at
least, as size is concerned. They are the
Bermuda yam variety. One of them
weighs seven pounds and others are
nearly as large. Mr. Chambers has one
at home that weighs nine and one-half
pounds.
