I know many who havo been at tho same desks and for tho same salary for years and years, and they are acknowledged to bo valuable and competent. Tho men under whom t hey work are not to blamo becauso they aro not advanced. Tho fault is at the fountain head. Tho di rectors of most companies livo in the east aud in London and other European cities. Whenever otio of those directors has a son or nephew, or thi( non or nephew of somo influential friend, ho solids him out west to t ike a position in ttio offleo of iho company of which ho is a director, and tho young man gets a fat place. Pleaso understand that wo do not blamo tho young man. As a rule ho is a gen tlemanly fellow and does his work to tho best of his ability, and sotno of them havo done well.
