Dr. Beaoh (town Marshal) has been mak ing improvements on somo portions of tbe side walks; it is to be hoped that the improve ments begun, will be extended to other por- tions at an early day, where improvements are greatly needed, We ere pleased to note, that to-day (Mon day) is a beautiful, pleusant and spring-like day, and tbe indications are favorable for better weatbor, we ought to .feel thankful, and we are trying our level best to be thank ful, for the favorable indications. Hie prediction is confirmed. About a week ago be sent letters of gener al iDqulry to tbe ordinaries of tbe various counties, taking how many widow* there were in oaoh county eligible. Replies havo been reoelved from thirty sewn counties only, but the figures are oon- olusivo os to the general result, there oan't be money enough for all of them Tbo ag gregnto ol these thirty-seven counties Is 1,- 294 widows. Now, ooly 350,000 is appropristed. | Tbo pensions are $100 each. In these mrty-ieven counties—to say nothing of tbe 100—there are twioe as many widows rs there are penaiona for altogether. Bibb county alone returns 100 widows, or one-sixth the number that tber* ar* penaiona for they range on down to Quitman oonnty wbioh returns only ten widows.
