The greater part of the paintings were donated by a lady, with a bequest also of $200,000 for its proper preservation. Among these were paintings by Meissouier, the smaller costing $13,000, aud the larger Friedland, cost $86,000. CONP.T ISLAND. E. church, South, met at Wrightsville Thursday July 23d, and adjourned Saturday afternoon. There were about 75 prcaohors and delegates in nttondanoo. The reports from all tho charges wero encouraging. Sot. oral vory gracious revival moetings wore portod irom different parts of the District, notable among them was tho reoent meeting at Lovett and ono at Marvin churob in Lao reus county, Strong resolutions wero introduced and adopted looking to a better observance of the Sabbath. Tbo committee on Temper, anoo stated as a raattor of great congratula- tion, that siuco Laurens county had gone dry evory one of the soven oonnties in the District—Washington, Glascock, Johnson Wilkiuson, Twiggs, Laurens and Emanuel was a dry county, as also Burke and Mont gomery, portions of which aro ombraoed in this Distriot. U. H. Walker, of Dublin, A. T. Daly, of Wrightsville, Iiov. W. E. Arnold, of Swains boro, and T. W. Freeman, of Wilkinson Co, wore Mooted Delegates to the next Annual Conference, with C. R. Pringle, of Sanders ville, J, B. Truett and J, It, Thompson, of Emanuel oounty, and Rev. W.D. J. Sumner, of Johnson oounty, as alternates. The next Distriot Conferenoo will he held at Swalnsboro. Wrightsville gave kind and bountiful en tortaiument to all present. Rev. J. F, Ward law presided with ease and grace. The devotional services were marked by much fervor aDd earnestness. Though in poor health for some time, yet an aoute attack of erysipelas caused her death. At about 1 a. w. on Tuesday sbe gently passed away at her old homo where ebe had so long lived in Tennille. The frequent inquiries as to her condition nnd expressions ol sympathy during her ill ness, as also the many tributes to her flue oharactor sluce her death, all attest tbo real worth of this noble woman nud the high es timate iu which sho was held. Ilor generous nature nnd beuevolent spir it beamed torlh iu her connteoauce, and fonnd expression in her gentlo words aud charitable deeds. Tho sorrows of the afflict ed nnd the troubles of tho oppreHsod always touched her sympathizing nature, nnd many onn tell of her comfuting words and ready responses to calls tor the distressed. She was a consistent member of tho Biptist church, a sincere Christian nnd a true friend of the Church of God everywhere. Though tho subject of great physical suf fering for years, yet she maintained a cheer l«l,gentle, equable spirit nmid it all that was truly remarkable nnd wns worthy of the highest praise. I have triod hard to enforce the Sunday laws, but if conncil wants to put things back to where they wero before all right. I will foel satisfied that I havo done my duty."
