Two colored boys mot with a horrible rail road aooideut on the down midnight freight train on Friday night. Their legs were am putated by Drs. Hatch & Burdott. The uccidont is thus detailed by tbo Tennille correspondent to -ho Maoon Telegraph: Tenoille, Deo. 12.—Two negro boys, Nelson Olay, a mulatto, and Floyd Thomas, black, aged about 17, happened to an aocidont here last night, each having a foot out off. They bad oomo from Maoon to Ooonoe, and there got on a freight train to beat their way here. On arrival, without waiting for the train to slop thoy attorn pted to get off. BeiDg on top of the oars, they came down the lad der on the side, and it seems that the bot tom round was missing. Clay came down right foot foremost, aud Floyd having the left toot first, each having their loot out off. Floyd says he lives in Maoon and has been working for the Manchester mills. 1Jis mother is LouvenU Thomas. Nelson Clay’s mother also lives in Muoon, but his father, lleury Clay, is hero, and lioa telegraphed to Nelson's mother. Both boys are under the medical attention of Drs. Davisbnro, Dec. 13.—A flro occunoa here yesterday about 1:40 p. m., slightly damagiug about twenty-five bales oi cotton belonging to T. L. Brown and T. J. Orr. Mr McKhily, the agent at this point, did heroic work, also Mr. Brantloy ol the firm, T. J, Orr did spleudid work; bis bands being slightly burned by the fire. Only for quick insight of Mr. McKiuly the cotton and platform, and no doubt the whole town, would have been in llames When lie discovered tho fire lie immediately had engine ol train No 94 placed ou the warehouse traok where water oould bo ob tained without any difficuliy within a low feet of the burning cotton, thereby saving tbo platform and warehouse for tho railroad company. All porsons >' ro , Ail Alarm ot Fire. Fire broke out on tho roof ol Mr. B. T. Rawliugs’ residence on Tuesday morning, and lor a timo caused considerable commo tion. It was first discovered, and tho alarm sounded by Col. B. D. Evans. Jr. The 8 m. train was just passing out for Tennille, when Mr, Wood, the engineer heard tho cries and had his whistle to add its note of distress to the general cry. A large crowd soon gathered, and tho fire was reached by water thrown from an upper room direotly on the BhingloB. Ir win, to be used ns tenant houses. This store we learn from Capt. J. M. Barge and Mr. J. L. Brantley, old oitizeus in that vicinity was erected, over a half century ago, when stages were run on the publio road there. Wm. Fish perhaps first kept a store there, and for years it was known, as Fish’s store. Jno. L. Irwin was the next to merchandise there. Irwin Bros., and Brantley .Peacook were next in ordor. Abe & Henry Hermann Bros, followed aod sold goods for some timo. They in turn were followed by Geo. and Bob. Massey. After they retired G. A. Tarbutton nnd O L. Mason oooupied the stand for some time. Mr. FranoisOrr was the next ocoupant oi the old stand Dr. Mason then again sold goods there, followed by the late Mr. Moses F. Joyner. A uew store bouse has been erected which is at present oooupied by Mr. Bid Pughesley. This is one of the choice and early settled communities of our good connty. The grand old patriot, eminent soldier and statesman, General and afterwards Governor Irwin.onoe lived here, and from him the beautifal villa was named.
