• Viemot tot Day in Tafbotton
Last Saturday, the 2GtL., of April, was
duly observed in our town. At naif pas*
three o’clock the exercises began at the
Methodist church before a large audience
from town ami county, by si igi 'The j
singing of that beautiful *ong “Sweeping
through the Gate*,” was grand. A prayer
was then ff- red by lb v. B. F. Br tllov.-.
After this the aong : “Loved one’s gone be- |
fore,” was splendidly rendered. At the |
dose of this song the peaker Hon. -I. F. ,
Poa, of Columbus, was introduced in a tew
remarks by the editor of this paper. He
thou procjcdtd to deliver one of ttie finest
addresses ever listened to in the town. He
held his large audience spell-bound during
it* delivery. Its composition was elegant
and its delivery partook of the fervor of a
warm patriot. Col. Pan is a speaker of no !
mean ability and iiis effort on this occasion
received the very highest encomiums. It
was beautiful, it was sensible, it was elo- !
quent and it fitted the occasion aud the j
time.
After the speaking the audience sang
that grand old hymn, that will never low
its sweetness: “The Sweet Bye and bye.’
The benediction was pronounce 1 and the ;
entire audience proceeded to the cemetery
where the graves of the soldiers buried
there were beautifully decorated by the la
dies.
