Fire.—Quite an excitement was started in our
town on Friday morning, about 10 o’clock, by an
alarm of fire, occasioned by heavy, dark clouds of
smoke rising in the direction of John F. Sutton’s
tan yard.
Everybody, including our Press Gang, rushed
frantically to the sceue of action. On arrival, the
fire was found to bo pretty much all smoke; the
“cnllud pusson”in charge of the premises stating
that he “wni bilin sum tare.” Mr. Sutton, like
Job, appears tranquil under his adversity and
“boils.'

A. MENET.
We insert the above notice at the request of Mr
Menet, to correct mistakes that have been made by
the patrons of the late popular firm of Hudson A
Menet. The above notice is very plain, and leaves
no reason for further error.
The Southern A Atlantic Telegraph Company,
having established a line through our town, we
think, would consult their own interest, and at
the same time confer quite a favor upon our sec
tion of the country by opening an office at this
place. Thomson is the centre of trade of a large
portion of four or five counties, and ships more
cotton And receives more freight than any other
depot on the Rail Road between At lanta and Au
gusta, except one Live merchants and thrifty
planters and busines men constitute our communi
ty, and if there be a point on the whole lino which
is certain to remunerate the Company for the es
tablishment of an office, Thomson is the place
