Sabley 1 few days ago we communicated the welcome intelligence that this excellent tleman was very ill at his residence in city. We have now the still more pa duty of announcing that he is no more, died yesterday afternoon. Mr. Schley has held important relation the people of Georgia. In 1825, he elected by the legislature. Judge of the perior Court of the Middle Circuit, and that position until 1858. In 1830 lie r sented this county in the legislature. 1822, lie was elected to Congress, and ed during the sessions of 1833, ‘34 and and in 1835, was elected Governor of State, and filled that office until 1837. ‘In his first message to the legislator Georgia, lie strongly recommended the struction of the Western & Atlantic Rail To tills work he devoted all the time he < possibly spare from the discharge of the ties of the Executive office, and had the or of signing the law authorising the struction of this road." Mr. Schley was at one time the Gra Master of the Grand Lodge of Georgia, •. for about twenty-five years from its organ tion, in 1822, the Grand Iligh Priest of Grand royal Arch Chapter of the State, as was its first presiding officer, and among oldest Masons in the State. He was President of the Medical Colle of Georgia, at the time of his death. -Mr. Schley was born in the city of Fred rick, in the State of Maryland, on the 10 of December, 1786-was educated in the acad emies at Louisville and Augnsta—and admi ted to practice law in this city, in 1812. He was an able counsellor; an uprigl citizen ; an affable gentleman ; and a devote husband and parent. In this hastily written notice, we preten not to recount the many important measure of State and local policy, with which Mr Schley lias been identified. He was thorough ly a Georgian, and no measure, calculated t develops the resources of our State, or add t its interest or honor, ever failed to meet bi cordial approbation and zealous support. Homicide at Cave Spring. The Rome Courier says that S. W. Dean on last Saturday killed Hosea Horton, tlie Marshal, under tlie following circumstances: These gentlemen had not been friendly for a year or more, and on last Saturday morning Mr. Horton stepped into the store of Mr, Dean. Mr. Dean requested him to go out, Mr. II, replied that be did not come to see him, but his clerk, Mr. Sam Trout. Mr. Dean then told him to leave tlie store and he would send Mr. Trout to him. Mr. Horton then struck Mr. Dean with a walking stick, and he caught up a hatchet, lying on the counter, and nearly buried it in tlie head of Mr. II., who died in a few minutes.
