Can’t you have it remedied ?

The Convention To-day.
Pursuant to a call from Col. Hardeman, the
Democracy of Bibb county assembled in Con
vention at the City Hall, this morning, at 11
o’clock. Col. Hardeman called the meeting to
order, and stated the object of calling them to
gether was to appoint six delegates to a con
vention, yet to be called, to nominate a candi
date for Congressman to fill the vacancy caused
by the death of lion. T. J. Speer, and to elect
three candidates for the Legislature from this
county.
On motion of Clifford Anderson, Esq., Mr.
J. W. Stubbs was called to the chair.
On motion of John A. McManus, Esq., Mr.
Cltas. E. Dumour was requested to act as sec
retary.
Col. Hardeman offered the following resolu
tion which was unanimously adopted :
Resolved, That every person who now ami
iatos with, or will act with the Democratic par
ty in the approaching election, without refer
ence to previous party association, be cordially
invited to participate In this meeting.
On motion, six delegates were appointed to
represent Bibb county in the coming conven
tion : Chas. J, Harris, Cicero A. Tbarpe, E.
Crockett, W. R. Phillips, H. Dreyfons.
Messrs. A. O. Bacon, Chas. A. Nutting and
John B. Ross were nominated for the Legisla
ture. Mr. Ross withdrew, and Messrs. Bacon
and Nutting were elected by acclamation.
The convention then proceeded to ballot for
the third candidate.
Messrs.; W. 11. Cason, W. C. Cleveland and
A. M. Lockett were nominated.
The following is the result of the balloting:
Cason 17
Cleveland 37
Lockett 91
On motion, Mr. Lockett’s nomination was
made unanimous.
The following committee was appointed to
inform the candidates of their nomination :
Messrs. J. B. Weems, R. W. Jemison, Cicero
A. Tharpe.
Mr. Bacon being loudly called for, took the
sbmd and addressed the convention in a few
seasonable, sensible and forcible remarks. He
explained his position on the road and charter
question, and concluded in a few words eulo
gistic of Colonel Thomas J. Simmons. The
speech set himself, his brother representatives
and Colonel Simmons right before the people
and they manifested their appreciation of the
ability of their Representatives and Senators
by loud and frequent applause.
Convention adjourned.

The Gbeat Circds.—This great institution
will exhibit here on or about October Ist, on
the grounds fronting the Park. We take the
following from the Savannah News :
“The exhibitions of this combination were
largely attended yesterday afternoon and last
night, and everybody appeared to be satisfied
that they their money’s worth. Among
the attractions in the menagerie is a magnifi
cent lioness, with a brace of whelps six weeks
old. There are also among the collection of
animals two litters of young lions, aged respec
tively nine and sixteen months. A curious fact
in regard to lions raised in this country is, that
they can never be made as gentle and as docile
as those captured in their native wilds. Wegi
this from Herr Lcngel, as he proved his asser
tion! by experimenting with the half-grown
whelps for our edification yesterday. They dis
plays much more spite and fierceness than the
Cider beasts- The Bengal tiger—a splendid
specimen, by the way—was imported by Col.
Ames. He is Lengel’s pet, and appearsj to be
very fond of his master. Those who saw Lcn
gel enter the den of trained animals yesterday,
observed that, although he used his whip un
sparingly on the duma and leopards, he never
once strnek the tiger. They are on the beat of
terms.
The performance in the ring was very satis
factory with one exception, namely, the at
tempt of one of the equestrians to ride a bare
back hurdle act The riding of Carroll was
good, and the performance of his little three
year old prodigy, Master Dolly Varden Car
roll, simply wonderful. The tumbling was
good, the posturing excellent, the trapeze act
thrilling, and BO on the end. ’’

Kkmakks —Cotton is depressed, notwith
standing reports from tlie pltiulalitHis all ugric
that tlie crop lias been short tally oae-lourtli
from expectations at an curlier period in the
season. Then- is a strong fn-lingof confidence
on the pert of the planters that w hen tlie full
facts of the disaster to the growing staple shall
have become fully known, It will rally and go
bovond prices obtained to-day. But of all
things in the future no one article Is more un
certain— certainly one man’s opinion in regard
to it is as good as another.
Our Banks are still short of enough cash to
meet tlie demands, hut we art glad to see
an improvement in the general circulation
throughout the mercantile community. It can
not he many days hence before the preseut
stringency w ill be dissipated liy the reception of
large amounts of currency, to move the crop
now rapidly arriving and thrown upon the
market.
Provisions continue firm, both here and
throughout all the Western markets—more
especially ill the line of the hog product. The
present high rates have had a direct tendency
to check consumption, planters buying just as
little as they can possibly get along with.
There is a general want of confidence in the
ruling prices, as the old is now passing under
the shadow of the new crop.
In the general market trade continues to Im
prove, although as yet we have received noth
ing to boast of.
