Tit world. —Mayor Huff’* report.
The above sentence of Mr. Huffs re
port will lie gratefhl to the pride and hon
or of every citizen of Macon.
It has been industriously circulated on
the Streets, that the eily was well nigh if
uot utterly Insolvent. We knew the ani
mus of those reports, and put a just esti
mate upon them, They were inspired by
either ignorance or malice, and arc suf
ficiently answered by the official repoit of
the Mayor.

TAKE IT II.M U.
Wo arc well informed that unless our
neighbor of the Telegraph makes a com
plete public rclractiou of the article head
ed "A Case Prejudged,” which appeared
in their paper of the 24th, and of the ar
tide headed “Civil Service” in the same
issue, Mr. Swayze, the U. H. Commission
er, will on next Wednesday, turn all tiro
prisoners over to the Marshal when they
will bo carried to Savannah, there to be
tried before Ccommlssiouer A. W. Stone.
Mr. Swayze does not feel disposed to try
these eases when he lias been accused in
a public print of having the Cases pre
judged It will save our citizens who
have leen urrusted much trouble nnd per
Imps imprisonment by the retraction. \\ e
should regret very much to have our rill

tltlOK Hlirnt KKIMIKT.
We cominoud to the diligent study of
our citizens, the able report of our Mayor,
Written under much provocation, certain
parts may seem savor* and acrid, but upon
reflection, mo rather enjoy tho well ap
plied lash to those whoso business seems
to Ik- that of blackwaahlng parsons against
w hom they foster dislike. Nothing is easier
than to abuse a person—especially when
he Is not present.
It is a simple mailer to cull a man an
“imbecile,''a "radloal,” an "associate with
niggers,” etc., etc., when It is desired to
raise tho devil against him. Hut thou, it
it is understood Hint all such jiorsomil at
tentions nro intended ns a sort of musical
serenade, to he Interpreted backwards.
They must be discounted at least one hun
dred and niuoty-nlnc and threo-fourtUs)ier
cent., and the remainder set down ns a
lapiue linguea, if notice be taken of them
at all. We have long since learned to let
such creatures dance to their own music,
aud compensate the piper*.
llut in this instance, we think Mayor
Huff did his duty to himself, his official
acta, and ids constituency, in exposing the
animus of certain opposition to ids ad
ministration, aud vindicating his official
integrity by facts anil figures
Wc shall have something, further ou, to
say aunt tho declared intention to draw
strict parly lines in tho next ensuing mu
nicipal election. A tiling so insatiu, will
not, we feel warranted in snying, be done.
To put up a ticket, lat>el it Democratic,
and swear all men Radicals who will not
vote it, is n species of folly seldom ]>erpe

such things arc attempted, it becomes a
very fruitful task to look up tlie record of
such iH'rsous, and, for once, give them no
toriety by publishing their history to tlie
world.
All a Mistake.
The most intelligent lawyers in lids city
