Didn’t go to church Sunday; saw you and
your squint-eyed sister-in-law all sitting near a
window next to the back door. I will call be
fore leaving for Milledgcvilie; probably at 12
on Thursday night; Saturday night or Friday
morning I leave; will be gone ten years or
more. I expected to have heard from you.
The engagement made will he broken all to
smash unless I hear from you before Thurs
day.
Two 4oo<t Servant*.
If w-e find a cook that knows exactly to wliat
degree of “doncncss ” we best like our steak,
or to what shade of brown we like our bis
cuits or wafiles, or to liow strong wc like our
coffee, w-e keep her as long as possible. A good
servant, serving in any capacity, is very hard
to find now-a days, and when once found
should he kept. Just so with the two candi
dates for re-election to tlie offices of Clerk of
Council ar.d Treasurer.
Mr. McManus, as clerk, has been tried well
and has never btien fouud wanting. He is a
good officer and deserves re-election to ttie
office lie now so worthily fills.
( Capt. Williamson ns Treasurer is tlie right
man in the right place. Resides his efficiency
as an [Officer, lie has a strong claim upon tlie
people—losing an arm in defence of his coun-
try—which should not he overlooked.
Keep these two good servants by all means.

TO EVERYBODY
AND HIS CHARMING WIFE!
riMIAT nil-important event., the election, having punned n way, and the “ times that tried men*
1 houlh ” have merged into the “ piping timed of pence” ; and Winter has been ushered in
among twitter of birds and music of the leaves uh they fall to the ground ; and the Hummer hav
ing faded away and the weather reduced to something agreeable, F have to announce to my nu
merous and beloved natrons that 1 have recently returned from an extended trip to New York,
Philadelphia, Poughkeepsie and Weehassan, and other celebrated markets, where I purchased,
and have now in my store, the largest lot of
“GOODIES!”
Ever brought to Macon, consisting in part of Sugar, Coffee, New York Canvassed Hams and
Breakfast Bacon, Lard, Butter, Canned Fruit, Jellies, Pickles, Raisins, Nuts, A|*plcs, Lemon*,
Cabbages, Onions, Potatoes, Crackers, Cheese, Hpiccd Hams, Bologna Ha usages, and —well, it
would take, me all day to write wliat I have got, and It would /111 this paper so full that Smith
wouldn't have a local for a week, it is ulmost unn“"“*wjf to mention the. fact that lam
prepared, as ever, to supply Oyab***** miell-ush of all kinds, from a Crab lo . Greeley oyster.
Th** tlTirot frefth and on lee, is kept by me, and sold at living rates.
In view of the fact that the people of Macon, and those visiting Macon, are determined to eat
whether they get anything good or not, I have prepared myself for the emergency, by making
ample arrangements to have my
DINING TABLES
Supplied with the very best this and other markets can afford. That popular dish, “Birds on
Toast,” being my own Invention, the people can always lind the same at my restaurant. To
gether with mv polite corjm of waiters, this brunch of my business will receive the putronage
of all of my old customers, and, 1 hope, many new ones. My restaurunt is, as is well known,
supplied with the very best
EATABLES & DRINKABLES
that coul.l be foujitl. Therefore, gentlemen and ladle*, having laid before you whut I have on
hnnd, mid wlnhiriK you nil the bent luck mid that i cun ault you in your purehaaeu from me I
