cussing the question as to who ought to
receive the election of U. 8. Senator at
the hands of the Legislature in January.
The discussion is tieiug con due'ed wi'li
fairness end much ability, upon general
principles, aud in several caw s the names
of prominent gentlemen specially urged
for the position That the Legislature will
lie governed by the highest patriotic mo
tives, we cannot doubt, without reference
the mere personal preference.
In speaking on this subject, the Greens
boro' Herald say,
•Georgia has many sons who are well
qualified to till the position with honor to
themselves and their constituency .and if we
could select four Senators, we would select
tht four men whose names have te en most
frequently mentioned in connection with
the position—Colquitt, (Jordan. Johnson
and Stephens Towards two of these, (Jens
Colquitt and (Jordan, we teel, in its fall
force the sentiment that usually exist be
tween men. whe have stood together in
tiis same battles, and if we w ere to con
suit our feelings alone, we Would most
probaly favor the brsve aud gilded (Jor
don, the peerless chevalier of the

them, aud now that they would no longer

policy, therefore, the Legislature ought to
elect Mr. Stephens now and Gov Johnson
as soon as a vacancy occurs."

and Biblical Library Combined," recently
issued from tbe Hartford press, subscribers
