The City Couucil, at the meeting last Tues
| day night, confirmed the appointment by the
Mayor of Messrs. John Hurley and Henry C.
Taylor as First and Second Lieutenants of
Police. These gentlemen have for the past
two years filled the above ofliecs with credit to
themselves and the force. They arc trust
worthy, reliable and faithful, and their reten
tion In the places they have so worthily filled,
will meet witli not only the approbation of the
police force, hut of the community.

. We visited the lodge room of Aurora Lodge

ogreeahly surprised at the active preparations

wall* with evergreen*, symbols and motto*,
■nd the trea is a perfect beauty. The floor Is
arpeied, a large store give* plenty of warmth,
I nd visitors will be as comfortable as if within
Iheir own home*. Every ticket is mrc to
iaw something, and we iearn that there are

want of money, and they have adopted this
method of raising funds. The managing com
mittee will leave nothing undone that will add

Housekeepers who had i*sud cards of invi
tation for dinner yesterday had enough vexa
tion to think of a few hard words. Our green
grocery shopkeeper* had no turkeys. On the
day before word came down from ttie city of
Mr. Roekafcllow that the special car containing
Macon's Christmas turkeys had run off the
I ir.,ek up there, bat would bo down early
' -hriatmas morning. So with this understand
i no invitations were revoked. But upon
* -C arrival of the Atlanta train you can fancy

Dinner had to go forward, however, bat the

went to Greer’s house near I'd. Aderhold'*
residence on Second street, and wldlu in a tate
of intoxication commenced a ipiarrel with
Greer. They were parted and Akridge put
out of the house. Akridge seemed determined
to spill blood, a* he crept around the house
and by looking In through the winbowr *aw
Greer standing near it. lie immediately fired,
the bull untaring the head of his victim about
the centre of the forehead, killing him instant
ly. Akridge then went in the house uud on
seeing Greer lying dead on the floor, he told
those In the house that he ws-. going and left
for parts unknown.
Coroner Dewberry was notified tad he bald
in impieat over the body of Greer yesterday
morning. The verdict of the jury waa in ac
cordance with the facts.
