Cause and Cure of Consumption.
The primary cause cf Consumption is derangement
of the digestive organs. This deiacgement produces
deficient nutrition and assimilation- By assimilation
l mean that process by which the nutriment of the
food is converted into blood, and thence into the sol
ids of the body. Perrons with digestion thu» im
paired, having the slightest predisposition to pulmo
nary diseese, or if they take cold, will be very liable
to have Consumption of the Lungs in some of its
forms; and I hold that it will be impossible to cure
any case of Consumption without first restoring a good
dtaestion and healthy assimilation. Tho very first
thing to bo done is to cleanse the stoma-h and bowels
from all diseased mucus and slime, which is clogging
these organs so that they cannot perform their tunc
lions, and then rouse up and restore the liver to a
b«al by action. Fortbis purpose the sorest and best
remedy is Bchenck’s Mandrake t ills. These Pills
clean ihes'omach and bowels of all the deal and mor
bid slime that is cau-irg disease end decay in the
whole system. They will clear out the liver of all dis
eased bile that has secnmuUtei there, and rouse it
up to a new and healthy action, by which natural
and healthy bile is secre'ed.
The stomach, bowels and liver are thus cleansed by
the use of echenck’s Mandrake Pills: but there re
mains ia the stomach an excess of acd. the organ is
torpid and the appetite poor. In the bowels the lac-
teals ate weak, and requiring strength and support.
It ism a condition like this that fcchecck’s Seaweed
Tonic proves to. bo the most valuable remedy ever
discovered. It is alkaline, and its use will neutralize
all excess of acid, making the stomach sweet and
lresh; it will give permanent tone to^this important
organ, and create a good, hearty appetite, and pre
pare tho system for the first process of a good diges
tion, and ul ti mately makegood, healthy, living blood.
After this preparatory treatment, what remains to
care most esses of Consumption is the ficeand perse
vering nse of Schcnck’s Pulmonic Syrup. The Pul
monic Syrap nourishes the system, purifies the blood,
and is readily absorbed into the circulation, and
thence distributed to the diseased lungs. There it
ripens ail morbid matters, wnother in the form of ab
scesses or tubere'es, and then assists nature to expel
all the diseased matter in the form of free expectora
tion, when once it ripens, Itis then, by the great
healing and purifying properties of Schenck’s rul-
montc Cyrup, that all ulcers and cavities are healed
up sound, and my patient is cared.
# 'Aho essentml thing to be done in coring Consump
tion is to get up a good appetite and a good digestion,
so that the body will grow in flesh and getstrong. If
a person has diseased lungs—a cavity or abscess there
—the cavity cannot heal, the matter cannot ripen, so
long as the system is below par. Wbat is no icssary to
enreisa nsw order of things—a good appetite, a good
nutrition, the body to grow in flesh and get fat; then
Nature is helped, the cavities will heal, the matter
will ripeu and be thrown off in large quantities, and
the person regain health and strength This is the
trne a d only plan to euro Consumption, and if a
person is very bad, if the longs are not entirely de
stroyed, or even if one lung is entirely gone, if there
is enough vitality left in the other to heal up, there
i3 hope.
I have seen many persons cured with only one
sound lung, live and enjoy life to a good eld age.—
This is what Schenck’s Medicines will do to cure
Consumptirn. They will clean out tho stomach,
sweeten and strengthen it, get up a good digestion,
and give Nature the assistance she needs to clear tho
system of all the disease that is in the lungs, what
ever the form may bo
It is important that while u ing Schcnck’s Medi
cines care should bo exerci3< d not to take cold: keep
in-doors in cold and damp weather; avoid nichtair.
and take out-door exercise only ia a genial aod warm
gjnsbine.
1 wish it distinctly understood that when I recom
mend a patient to bo careful in regard to taking cold,
while using ay medicines. I do so for a special rea
son. a man who has but partially recovered from
the effects of a bad cold is far more liable to a re'apse
than one who ba« been entirely cured; and it is pre-
cirely the same in regard to Consumption, bo bng
as the lungs are not perfectly healed, just so long is
there imminent danger of a full return of the disease.
Hence itis that iso strenuously caution pulmonary
patients against exposing ttcmselvcs to an atmos
phere that is not genial and pleasant, l onfirmed
eoosnmi.tives’ lungs aro a mass of sorts’, which the
least change of atmosphere will inflame. The grand
secret of my success with my medicines consists in my
abilitr to snbdue inflammation instead of provoking
ir. as many of the faculty do. An inflamed lung can
not, with safety to the patient, be exprsed to tbe bit
ing blasts of winter or the chilling winds of spring or
autumn. It should be carefully shielded from all ir
ritating influences. Tbe utmost caution sbonld be
observed in this particular, as without it a cure under
almost any circumstances Is an impossibility.
Tho person should bn kept on a wholesome and nu-
trith us diet, and all tbe medicines continued until
tha body has restored to it tho natural quantity of
flesh and strength.
I was tnrself cured by this trea'mont of tho worst
kind of Consumption, and have lived to get fat and
hearty these many years, with one lung mostly gone.
I have cured thousand since, and v.ry many have
been cured by this treatment whom I have never
teen,
AboutthefirstofOctoher I expect to take posses
sion of my new bnilding, at the Northeast Corner of
Sixth and Arch Streets, where I shall be pleased to
give advico to all who may require it.
Full directions accompany all my remedies, to that
a person i» any part of tho world can be readily
cure! by a strict observance of the same.
