McC., Louisville, Ky.—All right. A Friend —a young lady of fine appreci ation, and poetic talent — writes to us from Canton, Mias., as follows: The Banakr I consider a gem among papers. I do not take it myself, but one of the family does, and for me to send for another copy would be superfluous. 1 have, therefore, determined to send it to a young friend of mine, not with any proselyting view, but ■with the faint hope that, whilst enjoying its sweet poetry, and imbibing the grand and lofty ideas therein contained—idea3 that spring from noble hearts as the sparkling water gushes from the rock—should she condescend to read the sublime truths that occasion ally appear by the side of the rich productions of fancy, oh I may they fall upon a pure and gentle heart, entangled in the meshes of a lifeless system, like the fresh dew of Heaven upon the sweet flowers of our own dear sunny land, making them to open and to bloom, and be the fairest and the sweetest under God’s blue skies. With many good wishes, A Friend. newYtoky. The Last Days of Carthage; O R A SISTER OF FA BIOL A. YYith the commencement of the new volume, a Story, written tor the Banner of the South, entitled “THE LAST DAYS OF CARTHAGE, or A SISTER OF FABIOLA,’’ will make its appear ance, and run through many numbers. The scene is located at Carthage, in the second century, the hero and heroine being historical characters. It is one of the most graphically written and deeply interesting stories ever published, being an historical romance of the early ages of Christianity. It is written for the Banner of the South after the manner of the French, by a gifted writer. Now is the time for our friends and admirers to aid us in extending our cir culation. YVe want the Banner of the South to have the largest number of readers of any paper of the kind in the country. Any one sending us a Club of five, with a Cheek on New Y ork, or a Postoffice Mo u.ey Order on Augusta for 815, for one year's subscription, will receive a free copy. Specimens of our paper sent free. Subscription. |3 per annum in advance. Address : L. T. Blome & Cos., Augusta, Ga. TO THE PRESS. Our exchanges are requested to pub lish the above. Especially do we ask this favor from our cotemporaries in the Northern, Eastern, and Western States, Any notice of the Banner of the South, whether commendatory or condemnatory, will be esteemed as a favor. YVe want our paper to find its way into every city, town, village, and hamlet in the land. There are two ways by which this result can be accomplished—either by praise or condemnation. So this end can be gained, we are indifferent as to the means, be cause w'e are morally certain the Banner of the South, having right and justice Religion and Country, emblazoned on its folds, can never fail of accomplishing beneficial results. With this apparently eulogistic, and it may be egotistical, but certainly lrank avowal of our wants and our views, we close by again asking our co-laborers in the newspaper vineyard, to call their readers' attention to our forth coming historical romance, and to the Banner or the South, and its principles.
