The Cotton Plant—A Correction.— Wc are pleased to be able to state, for the information of those ignorant on the subject of cotton planting, that the alarm caused by the report that the roots of the cotton plant were dead, through the effects of the late cold weather, is entirely erroneous. Wc know but little of the peculiarities of tho cotton plant ourself, but are authorized by one who is thoroughly familiar with it, to say, that the roots of all young cotton die in the first stage of the plant, without exception, permanent and sound roots growing out in their place after the plant lias reached a certain age. A few days since, while we and others were in a cotton field, we referred to the subjectof cotton roots, in some sections, having been killed by the cold weather. One of tho gentleman, an old farmer, remarked that the first roots of all young cotton die; and to prove it, he gathered a handbill of the youngest plants, pulled lip here and there, the roots of which were all dead, and mostly dried up. He then pulled up the. stalks that were from five to six inches long, and every one had perfectly sound roots. He further re marked, that he had noticed this pecul iarity for the last twenty years. b"i.onKn People.—The better |f liiese people are beginning to ’hat their only true road to ’s by hard and incessant toil, glad to know that this feeling ed up and pulled the young men from ont the rubbish, and restored them again, to life. They returned to Bain- bridge—forgetting their cherished visions of Quincy—“wiser if not bet ter men.” So endeth our tale. fpisfritotteott* gtdmti&cmcatg. V Bead These Lines and Ponder Them Well.—The best tests of the merits of any proprietary article is to ascertain what is thought of it at home where it is manufactured, such a test Lippman’s Pyrafuge can well stand, as to-day it is decidedly the favorite remedy for chills and fever, dumb agne and other diseases of a malarious origin, in the city of Sa vannah where it is prepared. The prin cipal druggists of the city would as much think of doing without castor oil in their stores as to be without this popu lar (and deservedly so) remedy. It is a Vegetable preparation free from delete rious drugs and acts as a tonic upon the entire system, thereby invigorating the system so ranch so as to enable it to throw off disease. Pyrafuge does not nauseate or sicken the patient and can be taken by the most delicate persons without fear. It should always be at hand as chills and fever creep upon ns so stealthily that we are not aware of its approach until it is upon us. A word to the wise is sufficient. tf 131 Broughton St., Savannah, Ga., Wholesale and Retail Dealers IN Forewarned, Forearmed.—Now that the warm season is approaching, when our systems so readily take on disease when we get up in the morning feel ing listless and apathetic, wanting the energy and inclination to go to our counting houses, offices, or places of business, and unable to perform our household duties, feeling “out of sorts" but not knowing exactly what is the matter, until either a billions attack or chill and fever, prostrates us, we would say to those, if yon wish to postpone indefinitely this fit of sickness, with all its train of future evils, take a medicine that is a preventive to dis ease. This remedy is Solomons’ “Strengthening and Invigorating Bit ters,” which is a prophylactic ; in other words, a means employed for the preservation of health.—Savannah Republican. Miscellaneous. What was the result? The horse turned over ; the buggy turned ever, and tho young men turned under. This was a sad dillemma for the boys — also for the horse—likewise for the buggy. The horse kicked, the buggy smashed and the boys shouted “mur der !”—which reached the ears of a neighboring fanner, who thought the ku-klux were again on the rampage. He, however, neared the scene—but no terrible ku-klux did he see. Bathe saw a sight—a wreck. He was herri- fi:d! Before him was a struggling mass.
