CuXfYrAKC® ANECDOTE.—Il » Well known that tbe clerical host of the itinerating army of Zion which lately made a descent upon os, was sorely put to ft to know wham to bestow some of the t*dyj but faithful champions who appeared last upon the 'scene. In fact detachments were quartered in every dwelling, and not a few billeted even in the country for miles around. One night at a late hour, our minis terial friend who did the honors of the occasion, was summoned from his fire side by tbe intelligence that “another delegate" had arrived. Blank and crestfallen, not knowing where to assign the brother, he went to rtie gate utterly at a loss what to do. Judge of the extreme surprise of the dis consolate parson, when the much dread ed guest after enjoying his confusion for a moment, pulled forth from beneath the seat of his buggy a magnificent turkey gobbler, and asked where this 'delegate could be accomodated. The transition from gloomy perplexi ty to joy, as depicted in the countenance of the good man, was truly, refreshing. It is surmised that hs is, entrenched more firmly in the belief of an over rul ing Providence, and thinks a christmas on thanks giving turkey, will never be wanting on the poor ministers table. Who will take the hint and see that such is ever the case. Deeds like that carry with them their own reward in tbe happiness conferred. ' Verily, it is more blessed to give than to receive.—Cu.th.bert Appeal. Tna “Check Rein.”—One of the barbarisms of tbo present day, is tbs unmerciful use made of the check rein to compel a horse, while being driven to a carriage, to hold his head in an unnatural and painful position. This rein is tightened to such an extent by the fancy horseman, that the animal » unable to see the ground where he is compelled to place his foot-steps, and that too, while being driven at full speed : If the practice were confined to tbe fancy aloue, the result, would not be so bad : but we see it followed up by grave aud gay, old and young, male and fe- mald’tfor ft is quite common to meet with a lady who prides herself on being a good “whip.") To this feature of woman's rights we have no particular objection, if she will only slacken the '‘check,’’ and let tW horse hold his head, while traveling, in its natural position. How any Christian gentleman or la dy can reconcile this wanton cruelty, prompted by pride, to bis or her con- cience, is too deep for us to fathom.— American Stock-Journal.
