procuring n peace with that country.
“ On the Ist of March, a bill ‘ to provi I? som” relief
for the sufleiing people of Ireland’ enue up; a motion
was made to deni; it. The vote was taken, and Mr
Towns dodged again
M oe i ui mey \v s to be voted l > the M exicans, he
wraspiescot, when luonry woe t** be voiel to ti e starv

lor was to fa* supplanted, he cam • up missing, for fear ot
offending the President.
On the 80tb Febiuary, when the River and Harbor
LT came up—Mr. Towns was aghin a!si*nt. On the
*•’ c! <?i hpjimpiiaung tor the Cuintierlan J Road,
Mr. Tow is dodged. Oil the passage of the bill, he
agum dodged. Now, let it be borne in mind that this
bill was u.ider discussion for several days; let it be
fa:tiu r remembereJ that the Convention which nomi
nal and Mr. Towns suid the party was against Internal
Improvements Here the question distinctly arose—
Mr. Towns dodged.
” Now, we rep at, what sort of a Governor will such
a dodging representative make ? We reply, one that
can mno wise suit the (teople. We can admire a bold
lur.n, though lie may be wrong; his firmness shows us
a c iivicth aon ins pa t that he is right; but when he
dodges , vnd'-s responsibility, runs from the perform
ance ot his duties, we may know he will not do to be
trusted. Such a man as this is George Washington
Bonapaite Towns. Give us a man forever, who will
stand up square and do his citv.”
