The Independent South for the War.
For the iicmimnnilntion of nil, we otter the
Independent Soutli, during, these exciting
times at tin* fdlmving rates:
'I’liree iiiotitlts for Fifty cents; Six months
One Dollar. Always in Advance.
A Negro Republic unilor the Dominion
of a Northern Protectorate:.
This is the announcement made
by our infuriated enemies of the
North ; I; Xn quarters to the South
ern rebels, an extermination of (lie
infidel dogs even unto their wives
and children.” Mon and women of
our devoted South, can yon longer
hesitate which death yon will choose ?
Will yon die the tortured wretch of
a cruel and insulting foe, or fall the
proud and defiant defender of your
birthright and sacred hearth-stones?
You can no longer hesitate, vour
doom is sealed. If you cowardly
supplicate and compromise, assas
sination and arson is promised yon,
because of your rebellion, and your
possessions confiscated to defray the
expenses of your slaughter. Great
God ! My fellow-citizens, arise with
a double spirit of your just and ‘holy
cause, and our God has promised bo
will not forsake us, but will smite
our foo in his wrath, and he shall hi
consumed by his own revenge. Three
million of such unchristian savages
cannot subdue us if we will meet
them panoplycd in the fires of free
dom and the proud consciousness of
the sacrcdness of our cause. The
achievement must be made now, the
victory recorded to-day. Hesitate
and recoil from the struggle, and tbo
car of terror will pass over you, and
six months from to-day, every hill
and dale in your beauteous land will
send up its curling smoko to tell that
once you were and how wild the
furry that brought yourdcatli. But
now swear you will live or dio a free
man, and a new nation will rise up
on our sunny soil that all civilization
will acclaim the noblest acquisition
of human rights. Then, fathers,
mothers and sisters awake np to the
dire woes which threaten you, and
persuade and convince your sons,
brothers and husbands, that this is
no longer the blustering pniioramn

Patriotism of 1769. I / ,
The old Federalism of 1789, ali 's'
a "strong central government, is he ^
ginning to show its long repudiated ;
form again. Then was it nth oca" d j

South with unequal and oppressive
taxes. Not a statist that arose
from her federd ranks hut taught
the doctrine of a strong autocracy in
the executive, and ns early as then,
does history bring the allegation,
that these same Yankee free-booters
bargained and sold the republic to
foreign monarchic! rule.
Now wo should not he surprised
to see this old dynasty of Puritani
cal treachery and intolerance, call
ing on a military arbitration and de
claring a strong central government,
the only form which shall exist with
them. No (cdernl Lord has over
transcended their chosen executive
in the usurpation of power or the
abuse of it. lie lias announced his

the Constitution extant. He ha
declared war, decreed embargoes

martial tramp of the relentless
Northerner is hoard on every wind,
the booming of their war engines
lias announced their carnage, and
from every banner is shouted fire
and death to the Southern felon,
desecration and infamy to their wives
and daughters. Wo say pour your
burning ire into (hem, and dissuade
them to all but a proud and glorious
death or a freedom such ns South
erners may boast. Beg thorn to ask
I no questions how or when they must
II fight, as fight they must all now,

upon the bosom that has nurtured

will spread its terrors over their own
country. The fervor of their pat

promises of spoil and plunder. The
prospective of a farm South, and
