Botmixan Ruoicifo ovbr the latk Elections.
Tba Richmond Whig asks the following questions,
to which wa would be glad to see an answer from
soma southern Democrat:
The Democratic papers complain ngnin«t the
Southern Opposition on account of the letter's re
joicings over tba defeat of the Democracy in the
Jets election* at the Noatb. Why may not South
ern tuen axult as earnestly over the triumph ol the
Opposition at the N‘>rtb as over the triumph of the
Democracy there? So far as the question of slave
ry and Southern right* was involved in the recont
Northern elections, were the Dem»cr»iia candi
dates for Congress an} more fnvnreble to tho South
than the Opposition candidate*? If so, in what
respect? What was the difference between ihe
. two parties there on tbo ‘•finality" < f the English
Bill—-Ibe only matter of practical consequence to
the people of the South at the present time ? Look
at the position of the respective candidate* on this
question in each of the States where elections were
held last week, and where elections will ho held in
the course of the next month. I* it not a fact—a
proved, fixed fact—that every Democratic candi
date for Congress in Pennsylvania, in Ohio; in
Indians, In Iowa, and in Maine, with n very r cw
v exceptions, was pledged .to vote for tho repeal
,»be population-restriction clause of tbo English
Bill and for the admission of Kansas into tho*
Union with her prosenl population of forty or
fifty thousand soul*? Will any Democratic editor
in tho South pretend to denu tbo fact here al
leged?

Tbp Covington Times soys:
The Fair ha* been Attended by a large number
of people, and judging from the losses sustained by
some of our citizens, the fight fingered gentry hnve
been very successful in their slight of hand per
formance. Otfr fellow-citizen, Thn*. Shephard,
had his pocket packed to the tune of SO or 60 dol
lar*, before he had lime tolenvo the Car-Shed, Mr.
Parker, uf the Brick Store, was robbed of 350 dol

$160; another gentleman from tho upper part of
Georgia was relieved of the sum of 000 dollars.—
We have heard of a large numtier or persons itmt
lost all the money they had, but wc do not know
amounts.
Cotton in the SonTH-WKST—The Amerious
Republican of last week, says:
There has been a Jong spell of dry weather, very
favorable to tho cotton crops, at least thoso which
escaped the ravages of the rust. The weed, wi
places, still looks green and healthy, and many
blooms may be yet seen. We have not had a de

to tbo planters a fine opportunity of gathering tbo

The Southern Cultivator.
We have before us tho Novetnbor number of this
excellent Agricultural monthly, presenting tho
usual varied and valuable table of contents. Tho
. next number closes the sixteenth volume, and a*
all tuhterijit lone commence teitk the January num
ber, those of our readers who design commencing
• with the volume, wili do well to send on their
names in time. With tho commencement of the
seventeenth volume, the proprietor proposes the
enlargement of the journal by attaching an orna
mental cover, consisting of two or four loaves, for
tbepurpoie of containing tho advertisement*, which
at present occupy from seven to eight pages—thus
adding from fuurto eight pages of reading matter
to eaoh number. This change, while it increase*
tb«interest and value of the Cultivator, will, of
coarse, increase tho expenses of publication, nnd
it Is to be hoped the old friends nnd subsciibors of

rapturous expressions of delight.
A New Point.—It roust be refreshing to Judges,
Attorneys and Jurors to gat hold of a “point’ nev
er touched before. Boob we learn waa the good
luck of Judge Wsrdlaw at lha late terra of Court

decided that “when, pending the suit, a minor be

he a party, and the liability for costs rests upon
the gaont/om minor sole.’’— C’Aar. Conner.
The New York Express seems to be of opin(nn l
