One of our down town carriers has quit, and our subscribers will please be a little patient, until we can fill bis place. We would like to employ two men for the down town routes for next year. It takes about two hours, from three to five o’clock P. M. Theatre—Mr. Murdoch. This eminent tragedian made his first appearance last night in bis favorite personation of Hamlet. We do not hesi tate to pronounce bis rendition of that difficult character the finest we ever saw. We learn that $3,743.00 was abstrae- ted from the office of the Superintenil #K ent of the Georgia Railroad on yester dav afternoon. No clue to the thief has been discovered. Elgtlt January. I BUSINESS GENERALLY.—Since onr la-t reg ular weekly review, business of all kinds has • been dull, owing to the continued wet weather - and the usual holiday festivities. Upon thorough ] inquiry we find no material change in the rates of leading articles, though there Is more activi ty in trade, and an improvement iu the cctton market. Our tail trade has been very good, though we did not have the usual rusbitt the ' opening of the season, and all parties aio look - ing for a brisk winter trade. Stocks are ample J -for the wants of the season, aid country mci f chants will find prices iu this market as low if j not lower Ilian any otner, expenses of transpor tation considered. COTTON.—Our monthly statement appears in e this Issue, and shows that the amount of busi-1 ness already done has been much heavier than j at any previous seasou, and as heavy as they 9 usually are by the middle ot the year.
