Democrats of St.' Louis Organize to Get Congressman

—The electoral campaigns of 1932
are ushered in by an account ot
the establishment of the St Lo
Negro Democratic organization
succeeding the Associated Ward
clubs of this city. Headquarters for
the organization have been cuip
ped at 2326 Market Street where
two floors, which include an aud:
torium of 500 scat have been
rented.
Officers elected last week for the
ensuing year age, Attorney Joseph
L. McLemored president; Dr. 7
Garrott Benjamin, first vice-presi
dent; Mrs. Ethel Bowels, sccond
vice-president; Elmer Mossee, third
vice-president; Carl Glass, secre
tary; William A. Swanson, trea
surer; lLouig White, corresponding
secretary.
According 1to oiiicials of the
Democratic organization, members
of the club will finance the move
ment. Some of them have already
underwritten the budget for man
taining the headquarters for on
year. A condtitution providing for
an exccutive council which will re
present the larger Democratic con
stituency of St. lLouis hag been ap
proved.

NI’) —— The Republican National
Convention of 1932 will be held in
Chicago. It will begin June 14.
The tender of a check for $150.-
000 as a gift toward the expgnses
of holding the convention andythe
presentation of the Chicago Stad
ium, the mammoth new auditor
ium on the west side of the city,
clinched the preat meeting for the
*Windy City” and won over the
Atlantic City bid. Cleveland
Detroit, Philadelphia and St. Lous
had previously - withdrawn b2cause
they could not equal the money
orofferred for expenses.
Colored Republicans in attend
ance on the meeting were pleased
with the sclection of Chicago.
There is a frcedom of action in the
Negro capital of America, enjoyed
in few other places. It is easier for
southern delegates to feel that they
are a real part in shaping the des
tinies of their party when breath

A 13 year-old girl was at the
General hospital recovering from
a knife wounds while police today
sought an 1l-year old boy alleged
to have slashed her Monday after
noon during an argument. The girl,
Dorothy Raymond, rear 633 Beale
received slashes on the left side of
her face. Her condition was report
ed fair. The boy. Eugene Perkins
came address, fled after the fight
and escaped officers.
