£?£*'Extract from a private letter:—l was at
liowndea and Thomas courts. In those counties if l
am not very much at fault the vote for Col. dackson
will be death to the hopes of the great Constitutional
l : niou Humbug party in this District. Our friends
claim 100 majority in Lowndes and 200 in Thomas.
Their calculation according to appearances, is a very
reasonable one for the Southern Rights cause there.
We .lose no Democrats worth counting, and gain
largely from the Whigs. In Thomas fully onc-third,
perhaps more.
Caution to Ladies.—-A Cincinnati paper
states that I). Mnz/.ey was one day last week
called on to perform a singular operation upon
the head of a Voting lady living on John street.
It appeared that she had been in the habit of
twsting and tying her hair so tightly that the
scalp had become parted from the skull, and it
was found necessary to open the scalp to re
move the matter which had accumulated be
neath. This is the first ease of the kind we
have ever known.

ANOTHER SALE IN OGLETHORPE.
ON Wednesday the 6th of August, next, will be offered for
sale in the town of Oglethorpe, the present terminus of
the Fontli-Western Railroad, a number of business lots, and
also lots of a larger size, for residences. The Railroad is
now complete to that place, and the Cars run there daily.
Oglethorpe during the past year, has been free from dis
ease, from local causes, as mucli so as any pbice in the State.
This is no exaggerated statement made'tbr the purpose of
misleading any one. The fact in relation to the health of the
place, can be established by the citizens residing there.
It is known that three Banks have already made arrange-’
incuts for the establishment of Agencies in Oglethorpe, to af
ford facilities for the purchase of cotton, and others will
doubtless do likewise in time for the business season.
Terms. —In consequence of the present scarcity of money,
the cash capital will be nearly nominal, the remainder in
two equal instalments on the first of’ January next, and the
fir>t of January thereafter. Titles will be executed upon the
payment of the last instalment,
