THE END OF AU .
In youth bow blithe how fwect
and gay,
life's fmiling face appears ;
Our pleafurcs drive and we obey,
Nor think of changing years
In ev’ry dowry path we rove,
Nor fpurn the giddy call.
Till thus reminded from Above,
That Death's the end of all,
love guides within the tender
breaft,
With fweet fcducing aim ;
The dear idea is caiefs'd,
And blown into a flame.
But age will mark the foitow d
cheek,
The Genius too will fall;
The faultering tongues will
faintly (peak.
Is this “ the end oj all ?”
The fyren call of plcafute draws,
With mercilefs contibl;
While vanity invites applaufc,
Ambition warms the foul.
But if pale ficknefs peeps abroad,
Such comforters are fmall,
The Tweets of life cncreafc the
load ;
Such is w the end of all f
The glare of riches charms the
fenfc,
And honor's pulfe beats high,
The feiious thought is driven
hence,
And (hadowy phantoms fly.
While reafon yields to flavilh
fear.
This thought will tafte like
gall ;
fethaps the next involving
year
May mark “ che end of all”
O blend thefc fafeinating joys
With thofe of higher fame ;
let gratitude's melodious voice
Call on his Maker's name.
Religion will her charmsdifplay
And fmiles will meet the call;
Terror will yield to hope's
blight ray,
Which gilds “ the end of all .'
