WHEREAS official com munication has been made to the Executive, of the death of James Jones, late Representative of this ihate, in the Congrels of the United States. And Whereas in and bv an adl to regulate the General Elections in this Irate, and to appoint the time of the meet ing of the General AUembly, faffed on the nth day of p <v bruary one thoufand fcven hun dred and ninety nine - t it is de clared, a That in cafe any per fon duly elected, being in this ilate, and notified thereof, i n manner herein directed, fhail not within twenty days, and if out of this date, within forty days after fiich notification, nify his acceptance, or depart this life, the Governor or commander in chief fhail or der a new election to be held in like manner as herein before pointed cut: — And further , that all writs of election to fill va cancies that may happen for members of the General A fi fe mbly of this date, Houfe of R epre fen rati ves of the Uni ted States, fhail be direded to the juftices of the inferior courts of the refpedive countiesj who are hereby required to give public notice thereof, andcaufe the fame to be held in manner and form as herein pointed out, agreeably to fuch writ.” 1 HAVE THEREFORE thought fit to ifllic this my Proclamati on, notifying, directing and or dering the relpedlivc juftices of the inferior courts of this frate, to confider this my Proclamati on as a general writ of ekdion for the different counties of this date, for the purpofe of filling the vacancy of a member in the Houfe of Reprefentativcs of the United States, in the room of the aforementioned James Jones, who was eleded to that feat for two years from the fourth day of March next: And Ido hereby require and charge the faid juftices to promulgate this Proclamation, and give due no tice thereof, which faid eleclw on fhail be held in the refpeCl ive counties of the ffate, agrees ably to the terms and directi ons of the faid ad, on Monday the twenty-third day of March next, of which all perfons are required to take due notce, and the faid juftices are hereby re quired to make due return of fuch election to the Executive Department, as in and by the faid ad is pointed out.
