BE it enacted by the Senate
(T'd Houfe cf Reprefentatives of
the United States of America, in |
Ccngrefs ajfemhted , That the j
books and maps purchated by
direction of the aft of Congrefs,
paßed the twenty-fourth of
April, one thoufand eight hun
dred, together with the books
and libraries which have hereto
fore been kept feparately by j
each Houfe, fhall be placed in j
the Capitol, in the room which ,
occupied by the Houfe op
I Eeprefentatives, Turing the laR
feffion of the Rath Congreß.
Sec. 2. And be it father 1
enabled. That the Prefident of
the Senate and peaker of the
Houfe of Representatives, for
j the time being, he, and they
j hereby are empowered to eftab

Prefident of the Senate, and

ing, may deem fufficient for the
fafe keeping of Rich books,
maps and furniture as may be
confided to his care, and the
faithful difeharge of his truß,
according to ludi regulations as
may be v from time to time cf
labhßcd for the government of
the laid library ; winch laid

Sec. 4. And be it further
enabled, That no map Rail be
permitted to be taken out el
the laid library by any per Ton ;
nor any books, except by the
Prefident and Vice-Prefident of

prefentatives, for the time being.
Sec. 5 And be it Jar they
enacted, That the keeper of the
laid library Rail receive for Ins
Tervices, a fum not exceeding
two dollars per diem, for every
day of neceflary attendance;
the amount whereof, together
with the neceflary expenccs in
cident to the faid library, after
being afeertained by the Prcfi
dent *'*f the Senate and Speaker
of the Houfe of Representa
tives for the time being, fhali
be paid out f the fund annually
appropriated for the contingent
, expenccs of both 1 loufes of
Congrefs.
Sec. 6. And be it further
enabled, That the unexpended
balance of the fum of five thou
fand dollars appropriated by the
a<R of Congrefs aforela.d, for
the purchale of books and map
for the ufc of the two 1 foufes of
Congrefs, togethe. with Rich
fums as may hereafter be appro
priated to the fame purpofe,
fhali be laid out under the direc
tion of a joint committee, to
confiß of three members of the
Senate, and three members of
the Houfe of Keprefeniatives.
