An Ordinance
To amend the Ordinance relative to
Free Negroes.
B F. it ordained by the Commissioners
of the Town of Millcdgeville, That
after the I O.h day of February next,
it (hull not be lawful for any free
perfon of colour to remain in the
Town, or on tire Common of the
Town of Millcdgeville...That if any
free perfon of colour Avail violate
this ordinance, it (hall be the duty
of the Mai dial to inflict moderate
correction, for the lirR offence ; and
for the fecond offence, on due
conviction before two or more
of the Commilfioners, fliall be
whipped, not exceeding fifty ladies,
and pav all colls of ptofecution:
And that no free perlon of colour
fliall be permitted to remain in
Town, when on necefiiity bufluefs,
more than iliree hours at a time, ex
cept in the actual employment of
fomc white perfon, nen flarily de
tained, for the purpofe of tranfsHing
form- fpecial bufinefs ...And it fliall
not be lawful for any white perfon
to harbour, protect or employ any
free perfon of colour, under any
pretence whatever.

rial, Spanifli and Neapolitin Ambaf
fadors forming the van. The flair-
cafe was lined on both fidcs with
gratiadiers of the legion of honor,
mod of whom, privates as well as
officers, were arrayed in the order.
The officers, as we palli d, exchang
ed falutes with the embaffadors ; &
as the Imperial ambalfiidor who led
the procelTion, reached the door of
the anti-chamber, two trumpeters on
eacli fide played a congratulary
fiourilh. 'i'he ufliers who had led
us fo far, now took their Ration on
each fide of the door, and others in
more fplendid habits, fucceeded
them in the office of conducting us
‘ We now entered the anti-cham
ber, in which was Rationed the re
regular guard of the palace. We
were here faluted both by privates
and officers, the imperial guard be
ing confidered as part of the lioufe-
hold. From the anti-chamber we
patted upwards through nearly a
