If anv further lights on the subject could
be needed, a very strong one is reflected in
the answer to the Resolutions, by the States
which protested against them. The main oh
jeclion of these, beyond a few general com
plaints of the inflauiroatery tendency ot the
resolutions, was directed agaiast the assumed
authority of a State Legislature to declare a
law of the United States unconstitutional,
which they pronounced an unwarrantable inter
ference with the exclusive jurisdiction ot the
Supreme Court of the United States. Ilad
the resolutions been regarded as avowing and
maintaining a right, in an individual State, to
arrest by force the execution of a law of the
United States, it must he presumed flint it
would have been a conspicuous object of their
denunciation.

Mr Murray—To extend the time of taking
out grants in the land lotteries of 1813, 1819,
and 1821
Mr. Murray, from the Committee appoint
ed, reported a Bill to extend the lime for for
lunate drawers in the land lotteries of 1818,
1819, and 1821 to take out their grants, which
was read the first time.
Mr. Patrick—To further prolong the time
to fortunate drawers in the land lottery of
1827 to take out their grants, and to reduce
the fees on the same.
A Message was brought from the Senate in
forming the House that the Senate were orga
nized and ready to proceed t«> business. A
Committee was-appointed to notify the Gov
ernor of the organization of the General As
sembly.
Mr. Burns laid on the table a resolution to
appoint a committee to join such as may bt
appointed by the Senate to report a bill on
the snbject of a reduction of the members of
the Legislature.
Mr. Hudson of Putnam, laid op the table a
resolution relative to the appointment of the
different standing Committees. Mr. Hudson

Mr Haynes—To remove all white person;
from the Territory now occupied and claimed
by the Cherokee Indians within the limits of

Mr Haynes laid on the table a resolution for

Treaty from the Creek Nation of Indians, for the use of.
