Durability,
It has now been testod jnPtc than six years
by the severest trials^ and in every enso the
action of the weather seems only to indurate
and render if. more and more perrounent. In
no. instancQ has it ever been, ‘ known to crack,
cleave off, or waste by time.
Incombustibility.
The fire-proof qualities of this article have
been tested beyond the possibility of a doubt,
and have already bfcen the means, unques
tionably, of saving millions of property, as ma
ny large fires have stopped when it came to
buildings covered with it. It will be seen, by
the analysis, that it contains a lerge amount of
alumina and magnesia, two of the best non
conductors of heat wo have: consequently the
coating, after it turns to slate, is indestructible
bv fire. It protects the wood from the air; nnd
whero thorp is no air, thero can bo no Maze
or combustion; the w ood, therefore, will char
before the coating will givo way.
I insert certificates of all the insurance Com
panies ol Akron, Chio, where the paint is best
known, and has in several fires been tested and
proved to stand more heat, before giving way
than tin or zinc.
Water-Proof Qualities,
It has been found superior to anything ever
yfet discovered for stopping leakages in old
roofs, of cither shingles, tin,, or any of the me
tals, and also for. sides of brick walls, to pre
vent the absorption of tho external moisture*
In our experiments we coated a brick with it,
and after the coating had turned to s|one, im
mersed it in water, where it remained over two
weeks; at which timo wo ascertained that
there had not a particle of water penetrated,
lb it did not weigh any more than when im
mersed. We tried ono that was not covered,
and it absorbed nearly one third of its own
weight.
UsOtes.
Ifis impossible to enumerate all the uses to
which this valuable article may be applied.—
We will, however, mention some of the more
prominent. It is now being used with great
satisfaction, for the following purposes: For
roofs or sides of our dwellings, particularly
cottages, as tbo chocolate is just the color for
the sides} for manufactories, foundries, mills
machine shops, steamboat, car, and locomotivo
decks, railroad depots and bridges, and all
buildings near railroad tracks, it is invaluable
in protecting from tho almost constant showers
of burning cinders and falling flakes of fire
from the engine ; for all kinds of Iron fences,
either plain or ornamental; in fae), for all
kinds of iron work, as it has a very strong affin
ity for the different metals, forming, in a few
months, ft perfect enamel, becoming nearly as
bard as the metal itself, olid the longer on the
harder it becomes, and never cleaves off; lor
old or new tin roofs it is superior to any sub
stance ever beforo found; in fact, for.any thing
you wish to protect from fire, weather Pr water,
it is a desideratum sought for years, but ntJVer
before attained. This mostvaluable substance
hasnow^ beon so long tested, and has given
snch universal satisfaction, that there is in fact
butrdne opinion of its utility whore best known,
as it is now between six and seven years since
the first was tried; and where then applied, is
nowlikeastone.
Other paints that, wero applied at the
snmo timo by the side of this, have entirely
disappeared as tho action of tho ntmosphere
destroyed tho oil with which they were ap
plied, thoy washed or rubbed off like chalk
or whiting. -
Directions.
Mix the “paint” with Linseed oil or the
Patent Vegetable Paint oil, to the consisten
cy of thick paint, and apply two or three,
good coats with a common paint brush,
beingcarcful to keep tho paint well stirred
in the pot white putting-“on; dryers can bo
used as in ordinary paints,^if required to
dry soou. 100 pounds will cover a surface
