W ho set our oppressed nation free
From tho proud sons of Brittamtee,
May GOld the Union keep for us.

A house divided caniiQt stand,
Neither can a divided laud ;
O may the breach be heal’d rudeaJ,
America from blood be ftcc' j.
Tho love of money is the cause.
The root of evil from which flows
The many sins against our God,
For which wc may expect his rod.
t: •
When evils rise in church or State,
Let’s choose the least, in patience "'ait,
Lest Uzz'y like, some sinful hand,
Pull down God’s judgement on our laud.
If once divided, then farewell
To temporal joy while here wc dwell,.
May l arael’s God our nation keep
In love more lusting than the deep.
For this great cause brave Washington
W ent through great toil, our victory won,
I hope he’s now iu heaven alicvo,
Eucucled iu the arms of love.
Our ruling men, a x.Oid tojor.
Ask God fur aid in what you do.
May justice be your constant guide
Until you’re wboly sanctified.
Then, round the throne of Gpd may wo
Sit down iu love and harmony,

the first day of this month there
took
place a tremendous storm at Tho mas ton,
which is found to have extended wide aud far,
and to have done much damage—c wing to which
the itiucraut agents employed to soil tickets could
not arrive in time, and the drawing of the Union
Hotel Property Lottery could not take place on
the 2d iust. As there is considerable s-ock yet
to dispose of, tho Proprietor thinks it best to have
the drawing when the stock is sold, or most cer
tainly tiie fust day of January next: this will
give him time to sell the balanco-bf tile tickets.

3. It is practicable so to regulate the action of
the monitorial system as to gain a very great ad-
liiit u to the value of instructions imparted by
adult touchers, ami at the same time to avoid all
tiie real or supposed objections urged against its
adoption.
These objections, it maybe adder, have in a
great measure been set forth by persons u ho had
but a limited acquaintance with the subject, or
they have been urged against, not the legitimate
use. hut the obvious abuse of a thing in itself ex
cellent.
4. it is practicable to maintain, under the mon
itorial system, as-thorough discipline as under a-
ny other arrangement. But order iu the too ca
ses will r?ot. cousist iu precisely the same rules
and observances; just as the discipline of an ar
my, or of any other community laboring for a
common object, aud for mutual benefit, will dif
fer from that of a convent where silence may
reign indeed, while useful activity is banished.
