OHIO AND MICHIGAN.
The Legislature of the stale of Ohio met at an
Extraordiarv Session to which they were convo
ked by the Governor on tiie fcSrii instant. We
iiavo received the Message of Governor Lucas to
the Legislature, giving his views ofthe merits of
the controversy With Michigan Territory con
cerning the Boundary line between them which
is the cause, of,this Extra Session. Wo extract
the following from the c*ose of the Mr ssage shew -
ingtho conclusions ofthe Governor, aud leaving
no doubt of his being in earnest;
“The more 1 examine the subject the more con
vinced I am that our claim is just and incontro
vertible; thatir is a Settled question and that we
are under as solemn an obligation to maintain
onr jurisdiction ^oyer the township of port Law
rence, on the Maume Bay as wo are to maintain
it over any townshipcu the Ohio river.
‘•Gentlemen, the whole subject is now before
you for consideration. The question necessarily
arises, what shall be done? Shall we abandon our
jusiciaim, relinquish our indisputable rights, and
proclaim to the world, that the Act and Resolu
tions ofthe last session of ihe General Assembly
were mere empty things l Or rather, shall we not,
as was declared in said resolutions to be our duty,
prepare to carry their provisions into effect? Fin:
latter, 1 doubt uot, will be your resolution ; and I
trust that, by your acts, you will manifest ;o tha
world that Ohio knows her constitutional rights;
that she has.indepeuiience enough to assert them;
and she can neither be seduced by flattery, baffled
by diplomatic management, nor driven by men
aces from tho support of those rights. And gentle
men you may rest assured that whatever measures
in your wisdom you may direct, will be faithfully
pursued by the Executive to the full extent of l;is
constitutional power and the means that may be
placed under his control”

F OR transportation to and from Macon, is now in
complete order. A superior new Steam Boat
called ‘‘David Crockett” with two powerful Eugines,
and several first rate freight boats have been built since
the close of the lust season and placed on tiie line.
Steam Boat Pioneer, C-apt. Gootlwin,
“ “ David Crockett, “ M' Cormick,
will ply regularly between Darien and Macon, one of
them leaving Darien about once a week with freight
boats in tow.
Steam Boat CHARLESTON,
Capt. Jionnell,
will run constantly between Darien and Savannah, j
and afford the greatest despatch to Cotton.
Tiie subscriber’s whole attention is devoted to facili
tating transportation between Macon and the Sea
Ports. He has invested a large sum to put his line in
the most complete order, and believes that his arrange
ments for giving despatch to freight and keeping it in
good order, while in his care, w'fll make it the interest
of Cottpn Shippers and Merchants ordering goods, to
continue iheir favors.
At Darien he has secure and convenient Warehouses
for reception of Goods, aud his
Wharves there are covered
with sheds*
which enables him to keep all Cotton shipped on his
Boats under shelter and protected from the weather,
while landed for reshipment.

The Marl Pits of fine Jersey are among her
greatest treasures producing ou her farms the pur
est vegetable gold. They abound particularly in
Monmouth county, but have been found also in
Sussex, Salcu, aud other counties. Some ofthe
townships in Salem have, as we learn from tho
Freeman’s Banner.derived great benefit from tho
recent discovery of several pits. At 'VpodsioWn
hundreds of loads of Marl are taken from the pits
daily yml spread over the, worn out lands ot 1‘ills-
grovo’ and Pittsgrove, aud the result is. the land is
entirely renewed, the crops are doubled and even
trebled, and in some instances, where land had
been left as not worth cultivation, it is after the
application of this valuable resuscitator, made to
hang heavy with bending coru. The land on
which the pits are, is sold by the owner for $10
the square rod, aud in digging, they penetrate at
times to the depth of20 feet.
In the deepest of these excavations bones, burnt
wood, broken earthenware, similar to that now
used, have been taken out. Ouc of the pioprie-
torsof the pits states that in one of these, at a
great depth, a bone was dug out, forty feet it*
length, but unfortunately was broken into pieces,
and carried away by.the workmen aud visiters as
something strange, which indeed it was- Uow
