Stats and Darien or New York.
To connect this line with the north, there are two
regular Lines of Packets between Darien and New
York to leave each end once every week or oflener,
(besides ’ransien^vessels) so that with fair winds the
passage from New York to Macon may be made in six
or eightdoys.
Th re will also be at least eight Steamboats to tun
regularly between Darien, Hawkinsville, aud Macon,
some of which will start two or three times a week ;
an excellent stage runs three times a iveck -(with the
probability of its running every day after the 1st of Oc
tober,) between Darien & Savannah, and Steamboats
making the pa-sage in eleven hours, leave almost eve-
‘ rv other day, conveyance by stage twice and Steamboat
once a week to St. Mary’s and East Florida, so that
travellers arriving in Darien cau have their choice of
proceeding in either direction by stage or steam.

duce them not to desert ike land of ii.eir birth or adop
tion, unless, advantages of a superior character be
held out to them; but, l will address myself to their
interest alone. It is now two years .-nice I passed
through that part of Georgia, bordering on F lint rivfer,
when i was induced to inquire of Lite few scattered
settlers I occasionally inct, respecting the qualities of
lands and the prospect of health. Being fa
vorably impressed with the country, I spent some time
iu in iking a personal examination as to die extent of
the rich lands, the advantages the country possessed
iu regard to water courses, the chance of erecting mills,
and what might be ultimately anticipated from tiie na
tural advantages when they should bo fairly developed
aud appreciated, and I must say, my expectations were
more than fully realized. I immediately made some
purchases in Lee county cn either side the Flint river,
about four miles above a place called Pindertown.—
Being convinced thatthis was tiie mesi eligible site for
'a commercial tov.-n. and one that must possess ad
vantages over any other place on this river. It lias a
central location to a large body of rich land. The site
selected, is a beautiful eminence of pine land, and has
a bold bluff upon the river. It is immediately upon
the post road from Augusta and the up country to
Florida. It will also have a State road passing thro’
it from Columbus to 8t. Marys, besides the numerous
thoroughfares that will be made from this ferry to com
municate with different parts of the country."
The counties of Lee, Sumter, and Baker, aro on
Flint river, and abound in the most fertile lands that
are best adapted to the culture of cotton and corn. The
face of the country is level, the rich lands lying on or
in the vicinity of water courses which are at ondant 6c
never failing"; the timber is alternately oak, hickory,
and nine, while the first is always upo'n strong land--
muen of die pint land also, will rate v.-ith the best in
Georgia, in regard to the river, as far as my knowledge
extends, it is not surpassed for the purpose of naviga
tion by scarce any in tire State with a small expendi
ture to remove some temporary obstacles, which thro’
the wisdom of our Legislature, must soon be effected.
The contemplated railroad, for which Thomas Spal
ding F.sq. has a charter, communicating with Flint &
Ocmulgee rivers, will grendy benefit this section of
country. It will perfect an inland communication
from the Atlantic cities to those of die Gulf of Mexico;
a worn much needed, both from its commercial advan
tages aud that of government. This rail road has its
termination on Flint river, at the point before alluded
to fora town site. I have entered into bonds with Mr.
Spalding, to that effect, that the town will bo laid oat
duringthc pres nt season, and the lots offered for sale
as announced in advertisement
From close ob ervation, I discover, that those who
ixe temperate in their habits, enjoy as full a share of
health, its in any other part of the country in the same
latitude. The society is gradually improving, and I
■ think such inducements arc held out, bo-It by pre-t^
. and future prospects as to authoriso an iuvestmefil
j v. hich will certainly j icld a large percent.
