From the Savannah Georgian.
The Seminole is on the lake,
With 'tomahawk and scalping knifo ;
The savage foe is in ihe brake,
Preparing desp’rately for strife;
Like wolves—they love the sight of blood,-
Aud laugh to see life’s wasting flood.
The wounded white man hopes in vain,
For succour Ji-ojn his ruthless foe;
Tlie Indian smiles to mark his pain,
Or hear his dying groan of woe ;
And e’en when life itself hath fled,
He wangles, joyously, the dead.
Tho wretches care not for the weak—
Each old—and infant one, they kill;
On innocence their spite they.wreak.
And. drink of fiendish hate their fill;
Like panthers, tear they from the breast,
Til0 heart, ere yet 'tis still’d to rest.
The Savage foe must fly—or fall,
His blood eutinging wood aud lake ;
For hark! the warriors signal call,
Tells that the valiant nrd awake;
With arm of strength, and stronger soul.
They spurn resistance, or control.
The bayonet flashes in tho light ;
The cannon startles stream and glen;
Each day and hour for desp’rale fight,
Arc- mustered sturdy-hearted men;
The scions cf that noble stock,
Who breasted once a Tyrant’s shock.
Soon may the frighted ones return
To their deserted homes again;
Once more to see their hearth flupiC3 burn,—r
And circling round them sing the strain,
Which they iu gentler times did sing,
Ere war whoops wild wvre heard to ring.
