Bans et has been before the public in Chi
cago with the mir.e invention and that a
company was formed there, known as the
Transcontinental Aerial Navigation Com
pany. for the purpose of enabling him to
build bis ship so that lie could start on a
trip so the north pole last summer, but the
requisite capital did not appear. Now bo
trios this plau of a popular dpllar subscrip
tion and hopes, by the aid of the
government, to get the enterprise on
its feet. He has prepared many figures to
prove the absolute certainty of success,
and his speculations, calculations, and pre
dictions are full of fasoination, though they
should fail when put to the test. The sup
port which has been given to the plan hy
men and papers who may well be supposed,
to be trustworthy, helped to remove the air
of romanee which necessarily pervades any
undertaking of the magnitude aud novelty
of this, and makes it seem as if, after all, it
might be possible. Dr. de Bausst is a
French scientist about 00 years of a<je, who
has given many years to the problem of
aerial navigation. He has never been a be
liever in tbS balloon as likely to solve thiß
problem, but has long held that some kiiid
'of a vacuum would be necessary.

SCARED A CHICAGO -JURY.
DR. JEKYLL AND MS. HYDE APPEAR
IN A COURT ROOM.
The Young Man’s Appearance Com
pletely Changed While Ho is Telling
His Story—He is Afraid That He Will
Do Murder.
From trie New York Sun.
Chicago, July 24.—Harry Munzer wo*
brought before Judge Gary this morning to
be examined as to bis sanity. He is about
27 years of age and a fine-looking young
man. For four years he was entry clerk
for Edson Keith, and his in
figures whs considered something wrtuder
fui. He bad boen subject to gloomy spells
at periods about two years apart, during
which he would become a recluse for weeks
at a time. He spoke of these.
“Just tell us about the last one.” said the
court.
“I feel something appyoa-hing heavily,”
said the witness, “but I can take care of
myself hero.”
Beads of prespiration stood 'on his brow,
but ho displayed no nervousness. “The
queer sickness came on mo again about a
year .ago, said be, “and this time] became
much alarme i at t e devolopmeu.s. I
seemed to be approaching a state altogether
different from the natural one. An tgue
iiko feeiing crept over me, beginning first
in my brain. I was then living at my
father’s house ou Vo est Bake street,
i'ly mind did not seem growing
weaker, but it seemed to be al
tering its functions materially.
Presently the sight of a tod or anything
with a blade would start every fiber ami
nerve in mo to tingling and I became afraid
of myself—afraid for my friends. I felt an
Impulse grovpng upon mo to harm or kill.
I knew wliat I was about. I the
faces of my friends. I had a cool control
of my mental faculties. I was not out of
my head in tbo least, but them was a desire
which seemed to be muscular as well as
mental, and wholly apart from my natural
votitions.
“My father saw only the outside of this,
and I dared not explaiu to him the com
plete revolution in my being. He sen t ni#
to Lake Geneva to be treated In a'private
institution there, atid now for seven months"
1 havo boen there under tde constant ev e
of several experienced physicians. They
have been unable to assist me. I grew
worse. I knew it and. realized the dread
change. Never have I lost my senses. The
doctors gave me chloroform, but
‘I fear that it has hurt my nervous
system and served to augment this
fearful development rather than
cure it. We consulted, and thought a
change would be good for me, i now insist
that Ibo placed somewhere, so I may be
watched and treated differently. The week
I have been hero since I left Geneva I have
not been home. I will not go there. I be
lieve that some rapid change for the worse
would take place immediately should i go
back. This mania would unman me, and
force me to do that which I havo been bat
tling against. I would kill them. 1 might
kill myself, and yet 1 would know tvbat 1
was about.”
What terrified the jurors was tho com
plete ehaugo in his features as he proceeded.
From an innocent, harmless expression at
the beginning, his features wore a look of
extreme cunning and malignity. As fie
proceeded deep lines appeared in bis cheeks
beside Ins nose. The eyebrows fell dark
and tike corners of the mouth drew down.
His forehead wrinkled up as an old than’*,
and his voice actually changed so that
a listener might have suppoesd that a man
of 45 was talking. The words came from
deep down in his chest, and, in fact, the
entire aspect of the man was changed. He
bent forward in his cbfiir, his shoulders
stoopod, and his eyes became watery. It
wus remarkable. The court gasod at the
phenomenon before him in astonishment.
When the narrator reached that portion of
the recital where ho spoke of killing, the
jury gazed upon tho fat* of a man about to
commit murder.
“That will do,” said the judge in a husky
voice.
Hunger startled at the command.
He looked up wildly, then fell back in his
chair, half exhausted, with a sigh. Tears
fell down his cheeks. The wrinkles dis
appeared from bis forehead, the fiondish
-'expression left his face, and a minute more
he wus the young man, Harry Munzer
again, with tbo innocent faoe.
The jury brought in a verdict finding
him insane.
Sometime since, on arriving m this sec
tion, I suffered with a severe headache
which lasted four weeks. 1 tried several
remedis-, but air failed to give relief until I
obtained a bottle of Bile Beans, of which
two doses cured me entirely. Last July I
was taken down with indigestion. Doctors
and ail other medicines failed to relieve me,
-but a few doses of tbis wonderful remedy
Set me on my feet again.
