RAIL AND CROSSTIE.
Among the delegates to the convention of
the railway conductors, held a few days
ago in San Francisco, was Andrew Quin
tin, who is probably the oldest man in the
business in the country. He was born in
1816, and has been connected with rail
roads since 1835. He is now a division
superintendent on the Baltimore and Ohio
road.
The Georgia Improvement Company held
a meeting in Atlanta this week to consider
a proposition of vital interest made by the
Atlanta and Florida road. A fifcier con
tract with the improvement company stipu
lated that the Atlanta and Florida road
should issue in their favor $15,000 first
mortgage bonds per mile. The meeting was
called to decide if a less sum could be ac
cepted. After some discussion it was de
cided to agree to the issue of SB,OOO first
mortgage bonds, instead of the amount
called for in the original contract. The di
rectors feel that the Atlanta and Florida is
rapidly increasing in value, and will soon
be a most valuable property.
“That is what we have to put up with,”
said u popular railroad conductor at one
of the hotels last night. He pulled up his
coat sleevo and exhibited a newly luundried
cuff, upon which was the full print of a
child’s hand.
“Right clean—just put ’em on before
coming in town to-night,” he said, “but I
bad to assist a yard full of the little chicks
off the train, aud that ruined the cuff.”
„ “Children and cuffs,” the conductor said
cannot go together. In helping the young
sters off of the train they invariably get the
print of the child’s fingers on their cuffs or
their collars. “For a long time,” the con
ductor added, |“I did not know what
caused my collars and cuffs to get
1 soon found that whenever I had no chil
dr®n for passengers, I had clean collars and
cuffs. Do the ladies soil our linen? rarely

A Typographical Error.—Visitor—What’s
the matter, doctor? You appear to be excited
Doctor—l am excited, and 1 have good reason
to be. I gave the local editor a little notice to
put in tho paper, notifying my patients that I
had returned from my vacation and had re
sumed my practice.
“And he forgot all about it?”
“No, he didn't. I wish he had.”
“Why so?”
“Because the intelligent compositor left the s
off the word patients, and the complimentary
notice now reads ‘that I desire to notify my pa
tient of my return,’ etc. The way it reads
creates the impression that 1 havo one lone
solitary patient.”— Texas Siftings.
I suffered with liver complaint until life
became a burden. Last Tall I began to use
Smith’s Bile Beans, which gave immediate
relief. The severe pain has left my side
and all dizziness and melancholy feeling
have disappeared. I would advise any one
needing a liver medicine to give them a
trial. Mrs. H. E. Hyte,

Bet All the Stage
A-crowicg for "The Famous,” as the
proprietor has certainly accomplished the
best piece of advertising that over was at
tempted, by his liberality in giving every
boy that bought a suit from $3 upward a
free ticket to the circus. Tho rush this
weok was unprecedented, and "The
Famous” sold more boys’ suits this last
week than all the other stores combined.
If you don’t believe it, come and aeo tbe
crowd of boys getting their tickets Monday.
Liberality pays, and there is do clothing
firm in Savannah more liberal in their
dealings with patrons than “Tho Famous”
